See free shows by volunteering to register voters

TV on the Radio, The Decemberists, The Dresden Dolls, and Minus the Bear are some of the bands giving away free tickets to their shows in exchange for volunteer work.

Looks like all the NYC shows are now wait-list only...

Isn't it cheaper just to work those 3-4 hours and just enjoy the concert? If a concert is $15-20 then simply working a typical job at $25/hr is easier.

you only make $25/hr? what are you, on welfare???

True, but a "typical" job isn't $25/hr.

just want to say i did this for a couple shows during the presidential election and it was well worth it. getting to meet some musical heroes of mine as well as registering new voters was great.

and seriously, doing something nice for the community like registering voters shouldn't be put on a mathematical scale to compare with working a day job. if people dont want neocons to control the country, then people need to volunteer every now and then... and if you can't volunteer even when given benefits, then just keep jerking off to yourself and your infinite coolness. maybe to the o.c. soundtrack if you want.

But what if someone wanted to register as a Republican or Conservative? Is that allowed?

lol, wouldn't it be ironic if they helped get Al Gore elected and Tipper was in put in charge of censoring their lyrics!

I'm sure people could register as whatever they wanted, but I'm guessing the assumption is that the majority of people who go to these shows are liberals.

That's what Roger Waters thought too.

See that's the problem with a democracy-everyone gets a vote. Personally, I don't like to mix my politics with my music, and I don't really see why you'd take voting advice from David Crosby, Ted Nugent, Barbra Streisand, or anyone else.
That said, if you ain't got loot, it's a cool way to get in to a show...

I was thinking the same thing. I try my best to convince more people to vote Libertarian. Democrats have done enough damage.
