Love the band, but the album leaves me a little underwhelmed. A couple great songs and a lot of so-so ones.

I'm going to try so very hard to like this album. So long as he doesn't sing about dungarees, cutlasses, maidens, masts, or barrow-boys, I think I'll be alright.

i've been listening to this album for a couple of weeks now. loved it the first time i heard the whole thing, but it doesn't have much staying power compared to their older stuff. although it still captures the decemberists sound, it's their most mainstream sounding release to date. it has their best song ever (the island/come&see/landlord's daughter (how hot is that organ riff?!?!)/you'll not feel the drowning) as well as their worst song ever (perfect crime UGH). some other solid tunes too like summersong and oh valencia, but the rest is kind of boring.
