I saw Zach Galifianakis at the show and I guess Parker Posey was there too. Great show. Everyone was buzzing about his new song. I forgot what it's called. A highlight for me was Jacksonville and He woke me up again.

The new song is listed on the setlist as Snowbird, and it was fabulous. There were continued mic problems last night, affecting the violinists. It culminated with a loud blast of feedback during Predatory Wasp that brought that song to a dead halt. Sufjan blamed the problem on the predatory wasp of the song title that, he claims, has been haunting him for years. After a few minutes of back and forth between Sufjan and the sound people, they picked up the song from midpoint and finished it in a storming fashion, including a great discordent "noise" section with the strings, horns, keyboards and guitars swirling like hundreds of angry wasps.
fwiw - 1st row seats to Sufjan at Town Hall: priceless (actually $25 each). However, our angle stage left put us below the lip of the grand piano. So when Sufjan was at the keys, we had a great view of his legs from the knees down! At least the string section was a pleasure to watch.

The show was really really good. The new song was very good. I can't believe he ended with Casimir Pulaski Day, it is my favorite song of all time.
And did anyone see Sufjan hanging around Town Hall before the show? No one seemed to notice him...he just talked to a small group of people that seemed to be his friends before going back into town hall.

Wow, you are easy to please. Don't get wrong, it's a nice song, but chills? Damn. Enjoy the next flavor of the month.

heh. I'm a sucker for sufjan and any half-decent song that properly uses a full orchestra, so yeah... I'd be easy to please for just about any song he'd write in this style :-P
I'm not completely thrilled with the vocals, but when the violins and horns start playing.... whoa. I hope he records this.

Is anyone else totally fucking sick of Sujan Stevans? I don't mean to be a hater, but like... really - the wings?

Incredibly awesome show. A $25 ticket is a steal when you catch a band that plays with 6 violins, 3 horns, a SICK drummer, a beautiful pianist/back-up vocalist, and a storyteller who can rule a piano and an acoustic guitar. The stories alone were amazing. The rousing standing ovation was well deserved.

I was feeling Sufjan'ed out when he released The Avalanche, but the live arrangements of his songs are seriously amazing. The group he has on tour right now is extremely well rehearsed. His Illinoisemakers seemed a bit less serious and rough around the edges though they were well suited for those arrangements which were more lively and less grandiose.
The wings and all are a bit odd, but that image will always be associated with this tour and it fits with the music they're playing, just like the cheerleader rags complimented the Illinoisemakers arrangements. I'm sure the next time out they will have a different group of musicians and a different gimmick, but it's nice to see a performer who puts that much thought and effort into their production.
[4 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos. sorry, pet peeve.]

You guys can hate all you want... this was the most AMAZING show I've ever seen. He's an entertainer, a true entertainer. What a wonderful time I had. Thanks Sufjan - for a great memory.

The wings thing kinda dates back to the original Illinois shows.

Was there for the third and final night. Incredible. Folks who missed the opener really missed out. David Byrne was in attendance. The $25 ticket price was lovely, as well. He could charge more; I hope he doesn't in the future. Don't miss him!

Is Sufjan related to Jennifer Connelly?
John Norris from MTV was there too. Looks like no more $25 theater tickets :\

Duh, you don't post that he could charge more for tix. Why don't you just call up asthmatic kitty and tell them?
