Trans World won't sell the new Scissor Sisters CD

Scissor Sisters"Because of comments by Scissor Sisters about FYE pricing during a speech at this year's NARM convention, Trans World (fye, Sam Goody, Coconuts, etc) is refusing to carry the band's new album, Ta Dah! (out September 26th)." [Coolfer]

FYE hates gays! Just kidding. That's Buju Banton, and possibly Bad Brains. Ta Dah! trailer at YouTube.

who buys CDs at Sam Goody and FYE anyway?

Best Buy, online retailers (Amazon.com, etc), and indie retailers are a different story...

yeah... good riddance to those crappy stores. They can participate in their own rust-out.

People with ears that can't handle shitty quality itunes files still buy CDs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2006 4:42 PM

hear hear...

128k mp3s sound way worse than CD wav files if you are listening in headphones or on a good stereo. The nerve of the big labels charging the same price for a way lower-quality rendition of a song. That's why I will never buy an mp3; and if I like the mp3s I have sampled enough to listen for longer than a month, or in the car or something, I will buy the CD.

i'll third that. CD's tend to be competitively priced these days anyway (usually around 10 dollars for a new release at most major chains.) I used to buy stuff from itunes, but I got tired of dealing with not only lesser sound quality but all that itunes DRM crap, running out of licenses on stuff I wanted to share with mulitple friends and such.

so yea, some of us still buy cd's. not at fye though. i'm surprised those places even still exist. banning popular albums from their stores isnt gonna help matters.

I'll forth the mention.

If you have an ipod, with little tiny earphones, then mp3s are fine. If you have a quality stereo, then I much prefer my CD player with optical out into my receiver. The D/A on mp3 devices are just suitable for earphones, not for any decent music setup.

They won't carry Scissor Sister cds because The Scissor Sisters are terrible. Their lead singer is not worth a squirt of piss.

Doesn't matter how terrible you think they are, Ta Dah! preorders already make it #36 in cd sales at amazon...as long as other people are buying them fye is losing out.

who still buys cds? anything other than vinyl is a digital sampling of the waveform and, no matter the bitrate used in the compression, is still an imperfect representation of the sound. lame.

i kill scissa scista in zion with holy fire, jah

"anything other than vinyl is a digital sampling of the waveform and, no matter the bitrate used in the compression"

CD audio is not compressed. And since most albums are recorded digitally, and precision lost due to A/D conversion is done before the tracks make it to wax or CD.

Nice attempt at trying to sound intelligent, but you failed.

As an employee of F...Y(our)E(mployees),I totally agree with Jake Shears. It's about f...ing time someone had the brass cojones to tell the music industry that 20 bucks IS too much for a CD. I applaud his courage to tell these shmoes to their face the truth, the whole truth, and NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. FYE bought the indie,family-owned(56&1/2 years)business 3 yrs. ago and turned a store where true music collectors used to shop into one of their mall store wannabees to the detrement of our sales. Now,we sell MP3 players as well, which can only promote downloading, leading to what I believe will be the demise of retail music altogether. And finally, Mr. Shears' assertion the FYE should bathe in their own excrement was a bit off the scale, but I work with a couple of people who agree that this would be fitting. Looks like SS won't be playing the FYE company picnic this year,eh?

I work at FYE and we played the scissors sisters cd instore (which were not sposed to but we like them) and every time we had them in, someone would buy. We helped promote their business. Just because the chain is corporate, which is the only way to survive, doesnt mean the ppl in the stores feel the same way. Its not our fault about the pricing. Everyone in my store really cares about the music and we try to do everything we can to show it. Weve been having instore plays with local artists a few times a month to promote them as well. Some of us do care, we cant help it the big wigs dont.
