$25 to see DKs?! would be amazing to see them with Jello, but seeing the other original members seems pretty cool to me. $25 is relatively high ticket price, but compared to other "reunion" shows, it's not so bad. These geezers deserve to cash in a bit, don't you think? I would feel pretty good about supporting them.

would anyone go see "r.e.m." without michael stipe? how about "the pixies" without frank black?

as someone who saw the dead kennedys at bonds circa 1981/1982, trust me:

the group that is touring and calling itself the 'dead kennedys' is NOT in any way, shape or form the dead kennedys.

sorry to disappoint anyone keen on going, but jello biafra WAS the dead kennedys.

maybe this incarnation should just call themselves the 'kennedys.' but NO ONE should support a group that misrepresents what they are.

Please take a look at the history of the ligitation of Jello vs. the rest of the band.

This "band" is a bunch of money hungry fools subverting everything the Dead Kennedys stood for in the 80's. This is not just a reunion show w/o the lead singer but an ideological rape of what the band stood for.

Do not go to this show. Got to alternativetentacles.com and buy some REAL thought-provoking music.

Shame on BrooklynVegan for promoting it.

Anyone that sees the Dead Kennedy's without Jello is a dumbass. Period.

They asked me to sing these songs, I thought it'd be fun! Even though Klaus is a bit of an old wanker...

Pissing off traditionalists is so punk!

Punk bands reuniting with different lead singers is a fairly common things these days: Undertones, Dead Boys, MC5, Reagan Youth, Angry Samoans, etc. It would be nice if all the bands were 100% intact. But it's not a perfect world, and there is no reason that these bands should not play and fans should not see them just because a singer is dead and/or has had a falling out with the rest of the band. I say more power to the Dead Kennedys. Why should Jello hold them back if they want to play and he doesn't? I'm sorry but the Dead Kennedys are still the Dead Kennedy's without Jello. With three quarters of the band on stage and the band playing the songs and the new singer singing the songs in the correct style, then it IS the Dead Kennedys. It may not be the same Dead Kennedys, but it is the Dead Kennedy's nonetheless.

only complete LOSER would post anonymously above after exhibiting their utter ignorance.

just keep repeating to yourself, A-HOLE (no matter how upsetting as it may be to you) -

these are NOT the dead kennedys, these are NOT the dead kennedys.

i refer you to jeff the chef's posting above that says it all.

the undertones without feargal sharkey? oh you are such an unknowing miscreant that you should just deafen yourself by shoving chopsticks in your ears or something.

YOU ARE LOST.

Posted by darkglobe | September 12, 2006 8:22 AM

hey! i guess you went out and saw 2 of the surviving members with ian astbury singing instead of poor old dead jim morrison.

now you can say you saw the Doors!

Posted by darkglobe | September 12, 2006 8:25 AM

Okay darkglobe... you are an utter fool. And an angry and shortsighted one at that. Have you actually SEEN the Undertones without Sharkey? From your post I gather you haven't. Well they are absolutely amazing. You should really refrain from your simplistic and narrow minded viepoint without actaully seeing what you are condemning. Oh wait, that would require some sort of open-mindedness, which I THOUGHT was the idea of Punk. You seem determined to stick with your very shortsighted view that bands can never play again without one of their members, and you clearly won't allow yourself the experience to actually determine if it's any good for yourself. Pity. Your loss. Which quite frankly, and quite literally makes you the real loser.

And no, I never saw the 21st Century Doors. Nor would I want to. I think there is a bit of a difference between not having someone iconic like Jim Morrison on stage and not having Fergal Sharkey with the Undertones. It's a silly comparison.

And regards to my posting anonymously? Is darkglobe your real name? Do you sign checks that way? If you think that by me posting without a name and you posting with darkglobe that I am the one posting anonymously, I will gladly give you my name. It is, um.... Lightbox!

Boy are you an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2006 11:10 PM

1 have FAR more important things to do than attempt to educate a stupid idiot, but you obviously know NOTHING about music or original ART for that sake, 'lightbox.'

anyone who would see a band without the original lead singer - the one who gave the band it's VOICE, asshole, should be put away somewhere.

the undertones with feargal sharkey's distinct vibrato (look it up dumbfuck) is NOT the undertones - simple as that simpleton! sorry you were born too late to actually see the undertones (as i did at the diplomat hotel in 1980). find your own music, numbnuts. isn't we are scientists more your speed?

and 'punk' has nothing to do with it (or having an open mind). you MISSED punk, jerkoff, dontcha get it? and you're trying to recreate what you missed out on (and these money-grubbing ex-band members are desperately trying to hang on to what was). it's simply knowing the difference between what's REAL and what's FAKE.

jim morrison an "iconic figure?" what the fuck does that MEAN? he was a SINGER who wrote lyrics. a distinctive singer (like sharkey, biafra, stipe, joey ramone, rotten, etc.).

the only comparison, little boy, is that a band without the LEAD singer is not the same band anymore. they should change the name and play different music.

hate to break it to you, LOSER, but you did NOT see the undertones and you will NOT see the dead kennedys.

hey, justin timberlake just put out a new cd - check it out!

Hey DarkGlobe:

To prove to you that you DON'T have more important things to do, you replied to my posting the same day I posted it. I however, just read your moronic rant FOUR days later, because I REALLY DO HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO.

And guess what, I'm no as young as you think. I wan't born too late for Punk, and didn't "miss out on it" originally. I am not a little boy and probably have more of a punk pedigree than you you poser. I have seen The ORIGINAL LINE UPS of the Clash, The Pistols, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, etc... etc etc etc and have seen the Ramones probably more times than you your age. Does that make me a little boy? I think not. Have you seen any of these bands? I doubt it. You are a fraud as well as a loser. With the sheer number of original punk shows I have witnessed, I have a far more legitimate right to my open mindedness than you seem to have to your closed mindedness.

You come across as an old, over-the-hill bitter person who is tightly hanging on to their past for fear that they're own too brief glory days will be rendered meaningless if anyone younger DARES to enjoy or partake now in what you so obviously stake claim as your own from then. Well those days are over, and if you are hanging on to your own memories of youth for dear life, because your current life sucks so bad, then once again my friend, you are the real loser. You come across less like a true punk, and more like an old hippie who claims that nothing after Woodstock has any legitimacy.

And clearly, YOU no absolutely nothing at all about music or original art, as you so adamantly decide that a musician and/or artist cannot change alter or mutate in any form whatsoever from the original and first version that was presented to you. Artists change. Painters change canvases and styles, actors changes roles, bands change lineups. You clearly need a real education, in life as well as art and music. Your attitudes are of a bitter old man and yet your thoughts are like a twelve year old girl.

And as for the attacking bitter tone of your posts, let me give you some advice.... anger and frustration to not automatically a 'punk' make. Experience, knowledge and open-mindedness do. Try it... although from the sound of your rantings, you probably are incapable of it. I feel sorry for you.

Jeff Penalty is an idiot, and having him sing Jello's songs is parodic.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2006 12:31 PM

I have seen the DK's four times and now the new DK's three. Yes, sometimes it does feel like I am watching a DK cover band. But at times your can def can get a feel that there was def more to this band than just Jello. Spend a big whopping $20 bucks and make your own decision. Sound wise they are on the money and it's great to shoot the shit with them after the show.
PS if anyone needs the bucks for the ticket let me know.
Joe
