It was a media circus outside CBGB Sunday night (Oct 15, 2006). An ailing Hilly Kristal entered the club he owns around 7pm - not long before doors opened to the last show ever.
Ends up they held a press conference inside from around 7:20 - 8:00. The news media got to ask Patti Smith some questions and film some footage during soundcheck. Then they kicked all the press out before opening the doors to those waiting on line - some since 9am.

well david ive just found this ... i visited in 2000 ..was with my mother and sister and the people heard my accent (scottish).. as i was getting a pic took outside and got invited in was allowed to go on stage take pics they even opened the shop for me so i could buy t shirts before they where universally on sale .. oh and not missed any of your concerts in scotland ... twice this year 2009.. iconic is,nt the word for it ..well if you read this which i do,nt know since it been years .. you cant replace original place as you sang home is where i want to be .. hope to see you back in scotland bye
