ohh man. That takes the cake. Completely idiotic, but amazing nonetheless.

so would that be a rating of -1 or something?

Posted by eric | October 2, 2006 1:39 PM

HA! they didn't even get a 0. they got a monkey drinking his own piss! ahhh, good times.

Posted by AngryCitizen | October 2, 2006 1:43 PM

I am going to buy it just so I know what drinking monkey piss sounds like.

Posted by Cousin Eddie | October 2, 2006 1:50 PM

another quality pitchfork review.

Posted by hohoho | October 2, 2006 1:51 PM

in some cultures, such as the African Yoruba culture, a monkey drinking piss translates into a 9.2

Posted by AngryCitizen | October 2, 2006 1:56 PM

"another quality pitchfork review."

seconded - this is very sad, actually. toilet humour is pathetic and speaks nothing about the horrible jet, but volumes about the horrible p'fork.

Always good to see more pisstalk in the media. Let's reclaim a term that has been sullied by trashy porn sites for far too long. Take back the piss!

Posted by andres serrano | October 2, 2006 2:53 PM

right on! better than reading some spin mag crap. Jet is as bad as kings of leon.

Posted by nolte | October 2, 2006 3:13 PM

Funny, but such an easy target. I wonder if they'd have the balls to do the same to an album by

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2006 3:30 PM

Wait, what happened to the rest of my message!

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2006 3:32 PM

That was great. I was wondering this morning why there was no rating for that album... they should keep rating with short videos.

Less a metaphor for listening to the Jet record than reading the average Pitchfork review.

Posted by J | October 2, 2006 5:12 PM

what does it all mean?

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2006 7:00 PM

>>what does it all mean?

Well, see, the monkey represents the band Jet. And the monkey's urine is then the band members' urine. The monkey drinks his pee straight from the faucet which is a metaphor for the Quest for Reclamation of Spent Resources in a Wasteful World.

I think.

Whoever made that video ought to be hung, drawn and quartered for violating the dignity of that poor unsuspecting non-human animal!

Okay. I just listened to a few tracks from the AOL stream,a dn although a couple of them are pretty awful, the alubm as a whole doesn't seem quite that bad, and seems to continue the classic rock theme of their first album reasonably well.

I mean.... honestly. I sometimes get the impression that the people over at pitchfork are monkeys on typewriters. I mean... to give Justin Timberlake's album 8.1 stars, and then to pull a stunt like this is uncalled for and blatantly inconsistent.

Honestly, pitchfork does a great job of exposing new bands (I routinely scan their track reviews page looking for bands I haven't heard of), but when they stop liking a band, man, are they ruthless.

"I just listened to a few tracks from the AOL stream,a dn although a couple of them are pretty awful, the alubm as a whole doesn't seem quite that bad..."

If you listened to just a few tracks, how can you comment on the album as a whole? Perhaps you're a professional rock critic?

"seconded - this is very sad, actually. toilet humour is pathetic and speaks nothing about the horrible jet, but volumes about the horrible p'fork."

lol. whatever dude. i bet you complain about them being pedantic too. this was the best p'fork review ever, next to that eminem one.

Easy target indeed. Really, how tremendously different is the trad bar rock of Hold Steady from Jet's crummy records? I'd think Pitchfork isn't that desparate to flatter their audience.

"how tremendously different is the trad bar rock of Hold Steady from Jet's crummy records"

very different

it was over in like 8 seconds. I like this review.

normally it's strenuous to read the entire article.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2006 10:36 AM

kudos to all. dear jet, please make another album soon. i need more monkey videos.

Posted by poo | October 3, 2006 7:58 PM

well, I can't speak for pitchfork, but I know that if I were a professional music critic just waiting for something great and new to come across my desk, and then there comes this new album by jet which is so unremarkable that giving it a review would be like trying to write poetry about cold toast, posting a chimp drinking its own urine and calling it a day would seem pretty tempting.
so the comment isn't necessarily that jet are "bad" in the sense that they can't "play their instruments" or "sing", it's just that them putting out records is so pointless that it offends professional music critics. we already know what kind of bland soup they serve, so there's no use just sticking the ladel back in the pot and giving us another bowl.
