Scott Ian (Anthrax) + Snitch (Mike Diamond) = Retox (a new club) | Cypress Hill playing Halloween
"NEW York lost CBGB, but we're gaining a new rock Mecca. Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is teaming up with club owner Mike Diamond, who started Snitch, Pangaea and Vela, to open a rock venue in Chelsea on Halloween called Retox. Cypress Hill is scheduled to play opening night, and Ian is slated to perform with the band Five for Fighting some time in November." [NY Post]

stupid ny post - you can't call something a mecca that hasn't even opened and had the chance to prove that it doesn't suck.

when will nyc just off itself?

Scott Ian performing with Five For Fighting? that like Axl Rose joining Wilson Phillips

Yetch. It looks like a sleezier (if that's possible) version of Crash Mansion...

Hey, after the closing of CBGB and the reduxing of Continental, ANY rock joint will be a breath of fresh air. Pessimists...
Although Scott Ian performing with five for fighting will be disturbing.

ron, id rather have scrawny hipsters playing in the crawl space of some shithole in williamsburg (ft awesome) than another one of these squeaky clean, fake tough guy rock bars.

Sam, we need rock joints no matter where they are or what they look like. Some people actually like GOOD rock bands, not just anyone.
Squeaky Clean? There will probably be more science dropped in that place than an old episode of Mister Wizard...

the ironic thing is that this club is probably the type of place that wouldnt even let people like us in there!

I love all the fancy flash and no address, unless I missed it. Look forward to 9 dollar drinks, coat check, $40 admission and major label artists. Reminds me slightly of the Limelight but worse. This has NOTHING to do with anything related to CBGB, the Continental or the real NYC music and shouldn't even be mentioned on the same page. Just another bullet to the heart of the nyc music scene.

By the way- Scott Ian has turned into the biggest DORK! What a clown, that VH1 show was so gay and made me hate Scott and Evan SOOOO MUCH!

A little bit more 'LA rock vibe" a la Snitch in ye old Gotham....and who goes to Chelsea anymore, anyway?

OH, all you guys are sooooo Indie and cool. I can't wait til Williamsburg becomes the slum it once was when I lived there.
Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2006 10:58 AM
Williamsburg is still a slum. It's just an expensive slum.
Rock bars shouldn't be polished. Then again, Lamours was a dance club most of the time.

Untrue. L'amour was straight up Metal on Fridays-Sundays. Dance on some Thursdays. I should know. I lived 8 blocks from there and spent every weekend there for about 4 years straight. That place was the best. Brooklyn will never see a club the likes of that again.

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't know how often they had dance events since I only went to Lamour occassionaly. Either way, it was setup for a dance club on other nights, and the place felt it. CBGB on the other hand, was a dive in every aspect.
Lamour closing was a bigger deal than CBGB since it still had good bands playing there.

Mecca is just a stupid name to describe it, we're not in iraq.

what happened to this place? did it ever open? Is it already out of business?

I went to Snitch quite a bit when it was owned by Mike Diamond and friends. I really don't know what the hell you guys are talking about. I heard great bands almost everytime I went. Yeah the drinks were expensive but the people were way cooler and a lot less pretensious (sp.?) than alot of the Williamsberg hipster bars. I was greeted by hot short sexy girls and cool guys willing to share in their good fortunes. I even went to NVY when Mike owned it. All I can say is I've had great times in his bars. As a native NYC-er it is old school NY. Velvet ropes, expensive admissions (unless you know someone or the door man thinks your cool ... which is very normal) and a sexy crowd is old school NY. Personally I love it, as I think alot of NY-ers do. If your a transplant from Illinois or Syracuse it might annoy you. Maybe you should go home. Maybe the problem with NY is you.
