If you haven't heard of St Vincent, then you probably don't read Gorilla Vs. Bear (or listen to his Sirius radio show). St Vincent is the solo project of Polyphonic Spree member Annie Clark, and she sings beautiful songs beautifully like the one linked above (more at her MySpace too).
I missed her last time she came to NYC. Hopefully I won't make the same mistake again when she's here in NYC TWICE this month - October 9th (TONIGHT) and October 23rd - both @ Pianos -- both with "strings and horns and drums". And she won't be back for CMJ because she'll be too busy touring Europe with Sufjan Stevens and his wings. All tour dates below...

Who cares about looks? One of the great things about "indie" rock, is that you don't need to be gorgeous to get a record deal. Leave the good looking ones to MTV.
Sure, most of the women of indie-rock are ugly, St Vincent, Feist, the girls from Arcade Fire and Fiery Furnaces, but at least they are putting out great music.

Ugly? Seriously?... seriously? Couldn't be further from the truth!!! Annie is hawwwt. And so is Feist, and Sarah (double-plus-hawwwt) & Regine from Arcade Fire as well... those who think otherwise need to make an appointment with an optometrist. ;)

Just saw her perform, and I gotta say: both men *and* women in the audience were swooning. She's all that. Like someone said above, go to youtube and look at her DUMBO sessions. She is many levels of hotness, and a music geek to boot.
