Talking Heads (impersonators) playing CBGB Thursday
I guess the real Talking Heads wouldn't do it so they got the next best thing. The last ever Thursday night at CBGB (October 12, 2006) is a $20 show by "Losers Lounge Tribute to Talking Heads". No word yet on whether David Byrne will make an appearance. Video from Loser Lounge's October 7th Joe's Pub show below, but first a word from our sponsors (copy and pasted from CB's website):
Please note: On October 31st our Club at 315 Bowery will close until we re-open again probably in Las Vegas. However, our online store and office/store on Broadway and Bond, NYC will remain open.

Exam question:
Agnostic Front
Bad Brains
Losers Lounge
Dictators
Patti Smith
Which one of these acts do not belong?

I've heard of "tribute" shows where the actual band shows up and plays. I have a feeling this could be one of those shows. I mean they could get a real band to play no problem so why have a fucking cover band?

On the other hand, if the real Talking Heads were actually going to perform, why would they want to keep it secret? Furthermore, if the real Talking Heads were going to perform, even though it would be a secret, I think enough people would have known about it that the show would've sold out by now.

I doubt the whole band would show up, but it would not surprise me if David Byrne appeared.

His voice is nothing like Byrne's. He's got no lungs.

The Loser's Lounge is a NYC institution...that's why they are doing the show there. Byrne will probably show up - he's been to other LL shows before.

He's got no lungs?! Life must be pretty fucking traumatic for the guy so.

"Please note: On October 31st our Club at 315 Bowery will close..."
What's going to be going on there after the Patti Smith show?

"What's going to be going on there after the Patti Smith show?"
I think just people ripping out the toilets and anything else they plan on selling or bringing to Vegas. It's misleading.

The show is tomorrow and it is still not sold out. Weak! I doubt anyone will go. And anyone that says David Bryne might show up is a shill for the show.

Losers Lounge was booked because one of the managers of CBGB is friends with the folks that run Losers Lounge... and no, David Byrne will not be there and no, a cover act does not belong at CBGB... especially the last week.
For the record, most CBGB staff are not happy about this. There were offers for bigger better shows... but this is what one particular manager wanted for his friends.

I got to see the New York Dolls back in February at CBs - probably the perfect show for me to say goodbye to my old haunt. The smell of the basement and the toilet paper strung on a rope above my head brought tears to my eyes. Oh the hardcore matinees that housed me when I ran away from home in 85! And the Dolls - one of the few great bands that have aged well. I thought about going again sometime between then and now just to soak it all in again, but the bands they had booked most nights SUCKED, as always (same as at Continental), and I didn't want that memory. Then when someone good was booked it sold out in a heartbeat. But I was way too young to ever have seen the Dolls before now, they were amazing, and now I'm content that I got to experience the place for one last, glorious and dirty time with a great band.
