The Heebie-Jeebies at CBGB's | Book & Event

Heebie Jeebies at CBGB BOOK
"...journalist Beeber does a commendable job of illuminating the Jewish backgrounds of many of punk's pioneers, including Joey Ramone (Jeffrey Hyman), Tommy Ramone (Tamas Erdelyi), as well as Lou Reed, Lenny Kaye, Blondie's Chris Stein, CBGB owner Hilly Kristal right up to the heir-apparent to the Jewish-punk crown, the Beastie Boys." [Get the book @ Amazon]

EVENT
Heebie- Jeebies at CBGB's : With author Steven Lee Beeber, Danny Fields, LEnny Kaye, & other special guests at Museum of Jewish Heritage: Edmond J. Safra Hall, New York City - "Join us for a look at the fascinating New York Jewish origins of Punk. Our panel of famous figures from the music scene will address Punk’s ironic humor, leftist political engagement, and concern with the common man, among other topics. The Heebie-Jeebies of the title is more than just a joke then— it is an expression of the nervous 'shpilke' ridden nature of Punk." [$5 - DECEMBER 6, 2006]

Hi Folks,

The event posted here is at the Museum for Jewish Heritage, near Battery Park.

However, I've just arranged for a party to be held at CBGB's on Friday the 13, just before the Dictators reunion -- and final -- show. If you've never had a rockin' shabbas at the legendary birthplace of punk, this is your last chance.

For more info, check out my web site, www.jewpunk.com

Hope to see everyone there.

Gabba gabba chey,

sb

The Dictators final show is Saturday night. I hope you did better research for the book than for that last post.

Yes, they added a second show after the first one sold out. Only just learned of it myself, but good thing you pointed it out. Of course, the second show won't include a performance by The Sic F*cks. With Tish 'n' Snooky helping out lead singer/songwriter Russell Wolinsky, it will do my jew-punk heart well to hear "Spanish Bar Mitzvah" once again ("We'll invite the Garcias and the Schwartzes/drinking Manachevitz and tequila by the quartzes/lots of tacos, lots of kreplach/you're a man, now/so baby let's rock")

Posted by Steven Lee Beeber | October 8, 2006 3:43 PM

Yeah, but the first show won't include Debbie Harry & Chris Stein!

I hope you'll have those little cocktail weiners at that party. I really dig those.

Posted by Snarky Snarkowitz | October 9, 2006 4:19 AM

For you, Snarky, yes, little weiners will be had.

The Jews control punk rock too?! DAMN JEWS!

The book launch at CBGB's tomorrow night will now include free drinks and live music.

The band Gods & Monsters -- a kind of supergroup of punk -- will perform. Players include Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart's Magic Band), Ernie Brooks (the original Modern Lovers), Billy Ficca (Television), and Jason Candler (Hungry March Band). Unfortunately, member Jerrry Harrison (Modern Lovers, The Talking Heads) will be out of town.

Come one, come all. 6-8 p.m. CBGB's Gallery, Friday, Oct 13.
