Well I WANT to see Saul Williams, CSS, Mew, and Genghis Tron. Thanks to every fucking show being 21+ or 18+ I only get to see Genghis Tron and some other bands at a warehouse in Brooklyn. Should be a good show and all but I really would fucking like to see Saul Williams. A lot.

I feel terrible about the 21+ thing, really.

I wanna see Some Action kick the lights out at Magnetic Field, and redeem themselves for their CD release show.

I'm going to Steve Earle at Southpaw and the Merge showcase at Knitting. That's all this year.

Seriously, the under-21s need to shut the hell up. Post-9/11, New York is still the fake ID capital of the world. I've never even been carded outside of venues like Webster, Bowery, and Mercury. Suck it up.
Anyway, when you're over 21, you're going to loooooove not going to venues crowded with young pissants sitting down right in front of the stage because standing is just too damn hard.

so you see how a lot of these comments talk about maybe 2 shows or so that they're really interested in seeing. that's how awful cmj is once again.

the Slits, CSS, and The Thermals. thats plenty for me.

You only use whom when it's part of a prepositional phrase. It's who when it's the subject of the sentence. I hate people who don't know grammar and people who correct grammer. Way to be both.

I've never been NOT carded at Mercury or Bowery. I usually don't mind youngin's at shows, but I agree: sitting down in the front is a huge annoyance.

I never understood this behavior. I have never seen anyone sit in between bands before this current crop of kids. Youth are today really are lazy.

i imagine that people without badges probably have to just pick one or two shows to go to because of the cost of entry - i know for sure that if i didn't have a pass i'd only be going to free shows, or maybe a few cheap ones.
it seems a little odd how much people are trashing the lineup this year - especially since most of the 'blogger bands' are playing tons of shows - what exactly is missing? the only thing that i can think of that isn't happening but i enjoyed last year was the Arts + Crafts showcase (seriously, where is it? none of those bands are even doing shows!).

Why do people get excited about seeing local bands. Can't you just see them next week?
"most of the 'blogger bands' are playing tons of shows - what exactly is missing?"
If you don't care for blogger bands, then there is a lot missing. This year is very heavy on indie-rock and hype bands. Even less hip-hop and virtually no other style. Still, CMJ is a blast. It's like going to see the Siren concert and just hanging out drinking beers on the boardwalk. Good times.

CMJ and Siren both get worse every year, just like the people attending them

I'm hitting up Mo Pitkin's tonight for what looks to be a pretty unique lineup:
Nanuchka
Lution
Luminescent Orchestrii
Red Paintings
The only band with which I am familiar is Nanuchka and they're fantastic. The performance space in Mo Pitkin's is very small so one is guaranteed an immersive experience.

Mercury Lounge sells no advance tickets. It's mostly badge holders, but you maybe be able to pay to get in if you show up early enough.

"Mercury Lounge sells no advance tickets. It's mostly badge holders, but you maybe be able to pay to get in if you show up early enough."
No way. Mercury Lounge will sell tickets as long as there is room. As soon as the room is full, it will no longer sell tickets and no longer accept badges. If you think you are getting into places late with a CMJ badge, you are in for a surprise.
