Cloud Cult @ Knitting Factory

Cloud Cult returned to the Knitting Factory Monday night (Nov 6, 2006) for a post-CMJ last-minute early show (9:30 pm headlining slot). I was worried nobody would show up, but there were at least 75 diehards there to witness the heartfelt show that featured two live painters, coordinated video projections (that included fractals, babies, cars and insects), a smoke machine, trippy rave lights, and free mushrooms. Okay, just kidding about the psilocybin, but I’m definitely starting to wonder about those seemingly innocent bunch of fine folk from Minneapolis. On a serious note, the show was great as always – they played a bunch of new songs too, and the paintings they created during their 90 minutes on stage were beautiful.

After the show, audience members get to bid on the paintings. I heard the skeleton one went for $175, and that the pair sold for $400 at their Mercury Lounge CMJ show. Seems like a killing, but supposedly in other towns the paintings routinely go for closer to $300 each (cheap New Yorkers we are!). Not a bad way for a band to make some extra cash while on the road.

After the show I ran to Bowery Ballroom just in time to catch Voxtrot‘s 2nd or 3rd song.
