Dead Moon & The Organ break up

Dead MoonDead Moon's GEOCITIES! website has "temporarily exceeded its data transfer limit", but according to Sub Pop, Dead Moon's Fred Cole posted this message:

After 20 yrs, Dead Moon is retiring. It has been a journey we will always treasure and feel that a worldwide family has emerged in its place. Dead Moon became much bigger than the band itself, it became a DYI underground hopeful for a lot of people. The candle is still burning! --Fred Cole
Their other official website is still up though, and that lists the following tour dates:

DEAD MOON | 2006 TOUR DATES?
12/06/06 -Portland, OR Dante´s
12/29/06 - Portland, OR S abala´s
12/30/06 - Seattle, WA Funhouse
12/31/06 - Olympia, WA 4th Ave Tavern

By now you probably also heard that Canada's The Organ broke up too.

We are sad to announce that we're breaking up. We want to thank our friends, fans, and family for all the support you gave to us. Thank you. - Shelby, Jenny, Katie, Debora, and Shmoo.
The Organ announcement came right about the time we heard about Supersystem, not to mention Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock. Who's next?

Having grown up on The Smiths, I was really on the fence about The Organ at first.
I always liked the darker Smiths tracks..."That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore", "I Know it's Over", "Suffer Little Children"... and The Organ took some of the slower, more angular riffs and streched them out over a whole album, Grab That Gun. It's now in my regular rotation. Sad to see them go.

nooooooooooooo! dead moon = greatest band ever! total heroes in an age when you gotta come up fast, young, and hot, and go down even faster. not only did they do just what they wanted to do for twenty years, but they were absolutely incredible, and very nearly drove me to tears live.

i can't possibly say enough about what this band has meant to me, both in terms of the music they created and the lifestyle they championed. i am sad to see them go and hope they all get through what must be a really tough time okay.

Can't Let Go
(Fred Cole)

Ain't it strange how we risk it all
For one last shot befor the curtain falls
Cause you know I can't let go

It's a crazy feeling that we can't control
This sound of freedom called rock and roll
And you know you can't let go

It can wreck your spirit, ruin your live
But you pay the price to reach that high
Cause you know you can't let go

For every bad moment when you've had enough
You tell yourself just one more touch
Cause you know you can't let go

As you stand on the stage and bare your soul
Your nerves are shot and the crowd's turned cold
But you know you can't let go

For in that moment, the blink of an eye
It can make you smile or make you cry
Cause you know you can't let go

In wreckless world of one night stands
Uncertain futures and broken plans
But you know you can't let go

It's the rock rebellion, the teenage heart
You're gonna be replaced, it will tear you apart
But you know you can't let go

In this day and age, it has become increasingly difficult to be an "underrated" band, but The Organ was just that. Releasing their album just before the big-bang blog phenomenon, they were a band just always under the radar. And touring forever on the same album (especially in Europe, where they DO have a foothold) didn't help either. Nevertheless, they put out a great debut and will be in my regular rotation for years to come.

I'm sorry about the Dead Moon site being unavailable, Fred and I had just been talking about how to solve that problem, he wanted to pay for the webspace and the data traffic and everything. It's just that more and more people visit the site. Especially when there is, I mean: was, a tour coming up.
It's still hard to cope with the fact that Dead Moon have called it quits.
All I can say is: thanks for 20 incredible years.
