ex(?)-jammers Lake Trout playing 2 sets @ Mercury Lounge tonight w/ Ultragrrl band The Oohlas

"THE OOHLAS ARE COMING TO NYC! HOLY SHIT OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111 Their first ever nyc show for public consumption will be at Mercury Lounge on December 15th, 2006. OPENING UP FOR LAKE TROUT!" [Ultragrrrl]

And now the rest of this post - brought to you by BV correspondent ajfischler. aj's three favorite bands are Queens of the Stone Age, Galactic and Steely Dan. aj also likes Lake Trout. He most likely never heard of the Oohlas....

LAKE TROUT
Lake Trout

Friday night (tonight - Dec 15) at the Mercury Lounge, jazzy, jamish, drum 'n' bass practitioners turned ambient indie rockers Lake Trout will be playing two sets - one rock, one ambient - and recording for a new live album. $12.00 tickets are now on sale. Lake Trout is on at 10:45

Three tracks to stream plus eleven live ones to download (w/ registration) over on their web site. And speaking of their web site, it seems they've whitewashed their aforementioned roots from it. Not Them, You and Another One Lost are both listed, but Volume for the Rest of It -- one of the best albums EVER, by the way -- and their prior works are nowhere to be seen.

I guess you just go with what works for you....

thx aj. Definitely check out Coredero too (they were good when I saw them open for Calexico) - they play between The Oohlas and Lake Trout.

The Oohlas also play Shindig Saturday night

a night of completely terrible music

I recently become a Lake Trout fan -- didn't really like their stuff before but Not Them You is one of my favorite albums ever...

ok, so maybe she's no Chuck Klosterman... at least she's easy on the eyes

The rebranding has worked out for The Slip thus far, not to mention Bonnaroo. It's only a matter of time before Phil Lesh joins Modest Mouse.

Okay, I'm on the fence. Someone recommended this band to me because I told her I like ambient music. Granted, we were at an indie rock show, but when I say "ambient," I mean The Orb, Thievery Corporation, The Dining Rooms, Fila Brazillia... you know, not... another freakin' indie rock band trying not to sound like all the other freakin' indie rock bands. I listened to a few songs on their website, but I don't feel appropriately pumped.

Yah, the only show worth seeing tonight is Wooly Mammoth at Ace of Clubs, of all places... midnight.

"ok, so maybe she's no Chuck Klosterman... at least she's easy on the eyes"

it's so fucking annoying that when a woman becomes successful she's still degraded by anonymous shitheads.

Chill out, Ellen. I took the "so maybe she's no Chuck Klosterman" part as a comment only on the gushing quote about The Oohlas that BV posted at the top.

oops... that Klosterman comment was mine... wasn't trying to offend. I'm actually a fan of her blog because it's fun to read, I just thought that the BV quote was silly. I'm certainly not trying to degrade her in the least.
