Lily Allen calls NME 'cool list' cover 'sexist'

"The pop star has labelled the mag 'sexist' for ditching a special cover shoot, bringing together Allen, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Karen O and Beth Ditto of the Gossip. Allen had previously fallen out with the magazine's editors after they published a story about her cocaine use, which Allen had referenced in interview as a joke, but decided to partake in the photo shoot on the understanding that it would show female empowerment in music. Instead the mag chose a cover shot of Muse." [Sound Generator]

She also, rightly, gets pissed at the NME ed's comment:
"This year's Cool List is a testament to the raft of hugely talented women who have taken hold of the music scene in 2006," he said. "From Beth to Lily to Karen, they've brought new energy to a scene dominated by men. They're also living proof that you can still rock a crowd when you're wearing stilettos."
When, none of the women in the top ten, except for Kate, maybe, wear stillettos in the least.

THE GOSSIP frontwoman BETH DITTO has branded journalists at British music magazine NME "chickens", after the publication placed rock band MUSE on the front cover of their annual Cool List edition.
The list named Ditto as the coolest person in rock, closely followed by SMILE hitmaker LILY ALLEN at number three, and KAREN O of the YEAH YEAH YEAHS at number five.
But Ditto is disgusted NME editor CONOR McNICHOLAS decided to replace a planned shot of the female stars with a male rock band. She says, "They totally copped out. I think it's disappointing because I actually thought that things were getting somewhere, and they were just too chicken.
"I think it's just another weird backhanded gesture towards women in the music industry. And had they all been men, I'm sure it would have made it on the cover." Allen called McNicholas "sexist" last week (ends24NOV06) following his controversial cover decision.

While the stilleto comment is quite sexist, it's NME's right to back off the original, intriguing cover-story/photo, deciding that Muse should again recieve prominence. That editorial decision is not necessarily sexist and I don't think Allen claims it is. It's ridiculous, lame, etc., but not sexist.
And yeah... a "Cool List" sounds like something created by a second grade bully to ostracize others.
Can you imagine working at NME and getting an Outlook invite for the "Cool List meeting"? I wouldn't tell my friends about it.

It's not a question to fat or thin (which shouldn't matter anyway!) it's the sexist attitude of the prick who made the comments about stilettos... women have been in music for years, and it's not a "new energy!" ... the cover is irrelevant as Muse are an amazing group... its the fact that someone can openly act like an ill-educated chauvinist Mr. CONOR McNICHOLAS
