Mos Def | new album, Lincoln Center & BAM too
Mos Def's third album True Magic comes out on December 29th. It features production from Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes, Minnesota and Preservation. Why anyone would release an album between Christmas and New Years is beyond me.
Mos plays Lincoln Center on January 17th, and I just found out he's playing two shows at BAM in Brooklyn on February 16th & 17th.
Streams suck, but here are some from his new album:
* "Crime & Medicine" - WIN | REAL
* "Sun Moon & Stars" - WIN | REAL
* "Fake Bonanza" - WIN | REAL
* "Napoleon Dynamite" - WIN | REAL

I read that he just rushed this album out to fill out his current contract and that he really doesn't have any plans to promote it.

it's like the movies that come out in february... a dumping ground.
black on both sides is so good... and nothing's measured up since. not even close.
he was good in brown sugar, though.

it is dissappointing. it has a few songs with glimmers of his talentand the rest ofit straight up sucks. weak effort
it also doesnt even have a cover or a booklet. it comes in a case with a disc and a back, nothing else

"it also doesnt even have a cover or a booklet."
maybe he cares about the environment

The release date was moved up to that odd/poor date because the album was leaked. At least that's the reason Universal gave.

The New danger was a very good album, funny that it was so polarizing. I don't think people gave it enough chance. It made a perfect bookend for BOBS. Why repeat something?
I hope he rushed it out for contract reasons, although I remember last year he was on 106 and park discussing a new album

"Undeniable" and "Murder of a Teenage Life" bump. Don't be such haters. Just cause he can't get to the "black on both sides" or "blackstar" level doesn't make THIS one a bad album. Those two discs are better than most will ever put out in a lifetime.

Originally it was suppsoed to come out in mid december, then pushed back to 2nd tues in January. The other day I got notified that it was now pushed to this friday. There is no booklet/backing for environmental reasons. The tracklisting is on the actual disk.

I like it much more than The New Danger; in fact I think it's quite good and have been listening to it a lot.
But if Mos Def cares so much about the environment, why is he the photo-op celebrity endorser of the GMC Denali SUV? That's certainly not running on biodiesel or electricity.
