Nike-commissioned album too long for creator James Murphy, yet even Yeti dances

45:33"There are 45 minutes and 33 seconds of body music. The idea, to make a long piece of music built around an arc designed for running, appealed to me because it was so anathematic to what you're typically asked to do as an artist; make easily digestable lumps of music for albums, or the radio, or whatever." [LCD Soundsystem aka James Murphy]

James Murphy: It's too long for me. [Pitchfork]

"Yeah it’s only one track, but hey it’s freaking LSD Soundscan. If you learn anything from this genre it’s that longer is better. Nothing beats the longest song of the year. [except of course for TVotR]." [Yeti Don't Dance]

James Murphy: Yeah [laughs]. I mean, maybe it's bullshit; maybe it's not. I don't know... it could be. [Pitchfork]

(note: out-of-context James Murphy quotes from the Pitchfork interview)

This part sounds like it was made up doesn't it? How would someone know he was listening to his own band if the track in question hadn't even been released yet?

"I was listening to an edit last year and pulled up to a red light in Williamsburg, and two kids looked in and were like, "He's listening to his own record."

Pitchfork: They knew who you were?

JM: Yeah, I was in fucking Williamsburg. And the kids were like, "Hey it's the DFA dude...and he's listening to his new record." They probably thought, "What a jerk! Do you take pictures of yourself too?" [Laughs]"

Yeah, actually, it does sound made up.

Maybe I'm just the only only uncool person living in Williamsburg, but I don't think that most "kids" around here would just recognize JM if he were driving in his car. I probably wouldn't. Compound that with the likelihood that they were able recognize the sound of LCD soundsystem tracks that hadn't been released yet and you've got a pretty unbelievable story.

Either way, it's a pretty douchy thing to say in an interview.

LCD Soundsystem sound is not hard to recognize at all, and I don't live in Williamsburg. Also he is saying

and two kids looked in and were like, "He's listening to his own record."

and the kids were like, "Hey it's the DFA dude...and he's listening to his new record." They probably thought, "What a jerk! Do you take pictures of yourself too?" [Laughs] Always taking pictures of myself, reading about myself, and talking about myself. I'm like Prince. Apparently, he only listens to his own music.

He is just being honest and showing the guy is happy with his fame tho.
