last night's show review up at The Music Slut.

Went to all three nights. I am tired, but happy I witnessed it. We got the full range of Ryan, which makes him exciting and worth watching, I guess. Brilliant moments, wacky, a little crazy, funny, cranky...
I have my full thoughts with some pics and vids on my Myspace.
Good to see you back up and running, BV. I think I went into withdrawal over the last few weeks!

I too went to all 3 nights. The music was great, but bad crowds, and Ryan's bad attitude on the 3rd night made these shows just average imo. Ryan is capable of so much but he just fell a little short at these shows. Oh well I am sure it won't be too long before I see him again and he will be ripping it up again on stage.

I had fun. Last the time i saw him, he didn't even pick up a electric guitar. So it was nice to see him rock out a little. Does anyone have the setlist from last night?
Posted by jojo | December 7, 2006 9:31 AM
Last night's show was terrible - he played for 85 minutes including a setbreak and no encores - left the stage at 10:35 because a few drunk people were screaming song names. He's a big baby.
Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2006 9:37 AM
setlist, more or less:
come pick me up
stars go blue
sweet carolina
love his hell
this is it
la cienaga
hallelujah
wish you were here
blue sky blues
games
winding wheel
willow jane
rescue blues
i mean, this was quite a show. he let some crowd antics get the best of him and that definitely sucked, but the set was ridiculous before he started calling us all assholes.

"last night's show review up at The Music Slut."
Why can't the Music Slut stopped spamming BV in order to get more hits to the site? Please, do not go to The Music Slut. Katie posted the setlist, why can't Matt do the same without spamming BV?

I went to Tuesday's show. It was the first time I have seen him. It was below average, Town Hall is a good venue but it's not really a place to rock out. Some drunk asshole was thrown out in the middle of the set yelling the typical Bryan Adams crap. He really didn't play any fan favorites, I was glad to hear Firecracker.

Here is the complete setlist. It is hard to argue that he didn't paly long enough. A lot of band only play for 1 hour or 16 songs in one show. Too I wish he would have played longer, but imo it wasn't how long he played it was the fact that he seemed burdened by playing at all on the 3rd night.
Come Pick Me Up
When The Stars Go Blue
Oh My Sweet Carolina
Love Is Hell
This Is It
Afraid Not Scared
La Cienga Just Smiled
**break**
Hallelujah
Wish You Were Here
Judy Garland
Blue Sky Blues
Games
My Winding Wheel
Willow Jane
29
The Rescue Blues

I went to the show on Tuesday. It was ok. I thought the show at Bowery a few months back was a lot better.
Posted by anonymous | December 7, 2006 10:22 AM
who opened the 3rd show?
Posted by jb | December 7, 2006 10:35 AM
leona naess

these shows were AMAZING, i couldnt have asked for better. Ryan plays far longer than any band i have ever seen so i wont complain about how he didnt give us enough. he seriously just keeps getting better and better with age, and i guess sobriety. wish he could play nyc all the time!

I only went to the third night, and I left pretty disappointed. I thought the band sounded excellent at times, but kinda stiff and too professional. Ryan really kinda hit on something great with his band from 01-02, and I don't feel like he's matched it since.
For me the show just lacked any real passion. Part of it was the room -- Town Hall should be banned for rock shows. Part of it was Ryan's attitude. Part of it was the crowd.
I really wasn't that disappointed when Ryan stormed off without an encore. I didn't need to see another 25 minutes of uninspired performance.

Personally, I checked out the first show on Monday, and I have to say they sounded pretty incredible. Ryan was not only in great voice but in a great mood. They played for almost two hours, and while he didn't necessarily play my personal faves (most of which seemed to have been in the third night setlist), I didn't mind. Plus I have to disagree with people who are against Town Hall as a venue. The sound system is incredible and well-mixed, and frankly the seats are comfortable. My friend and I commented that we wished more bands played there. Hey, every once in a while it's nice to sit down like you're at home in front of your stereo and just take in the sounds.

That Bryan Adams joke stopped being funny about four years ago. When he was in CA in the fall, he rocked, though the setlist was mostly from the last couple of albums (though not much from 29)

i didn't see the ryan adams shows, but i have to say i agree that town hall is not good for a loud band. i saw fiery furnaces there, and i felt like the venue ruined it. however, i saw patty griffin there, and it was great. if electric guitars are going to be involved, then i am suspicious of town hall.

It's been around 2 to 3 years since I saw Ryan last, I believe the Rock and Roll show. I organized a big surprise for my wife as she's a huge fan and walked away with real disappointment. The show started out amazing and I was sure it was going to end up being the best concert I ever wintnessed. But next thing you know he's fighting with everyone from the crowd to the band to the lighting guys.
Additionally wasn't this billed as a Ryan Adams and the Cardinals show? Where were the Cold Roses songs? I don't know about everyone else but I was really looking forward to seeing the country side of Adams.
Maybe it was the crowds fault, I don't know. I'd like to think he's simply overly sensitive and going through some tough times... I hope he figures out how to ignore/deal with fans better in the future.

To Jason Dean,
The reason you didn't hear any cold roses songs is becasue Ryan also promised no repeats over the 3 nights which he delivered and most of Cold Roses was played over the first and second night.

Didn't go the third night, but would've loved to hear some Love is Hell & RnR tracks. I thought Monday night was spectacular. Tuesday was good, but overshadowed by the previous night's beautiful performance. I'd take 90 mins more if that was all I was given, but I could see how many would be disappointed if this was the only one out of three they were attending.
Fave crowd moment: Monday night, some guy stands up and starts self-importantly yelling about how he wants to stand and asks if anyone's with him. A few sheep around him stand, blocking view of the people behind them as Ryan & Co. launch into the most countrified slow song of the night. Douchebag & nozzles sit down and are later told, by security, to stay seated.

I know exactly one person that didn't like it...and so far that's the only person on Earth that has had the nuts to admit some flaws in Whiskeyboy's armor.

Ace Cowboy:
Your review only tells me that you read the comments posted above yours in this BV posting.
Then again, your statement that "I know exactly one person that didn't like it..." tells me you didn't read the comments above at all.
More importantly, your statement---> "I feel like the guy who wants to marry the ugly chick from high school because I once heard that she could shove an entire Charleston Chew down her throat."--> tells me that you're shallow and immature.
Try again.

Scotch:
Interestingly, your own comment tells me you didn't read the review at all. I didn't write that, hence why I said I know one guy. It's not like I wasn't doing the "what has two thumbs and..." routine.
But more to the point...you find that line shallow and immature? I may be both of those things, and so may the writer of those words, but that statement is pretty damn funny no matter how you slice it.
I will admit, though, I did skim over some of the comments here and noticed similar viewpoints only after I posted what I thought would be a differing opinion, something semi-necessary for true dialogue. My bad -- I did get bad marks in reading comprehension in 5th grade. But then I had a string cheese and I felt okay.

I was sitting in front of the drunk assholes all night, pleading while they continued to yell with songs and supportively cheer "fuck it up!" throughout the night. they fought with security, kicked my chair, said "if you dont shut your face i'm gonna punch you in...your face" to my date, I was ready to leave Town Hall when Ryan did.

to danfun:
Thanks for enlightening me on the all unique songs bit - Live and learn! In the end it was cool to hear the older tunes and I'm sure I'll have an opportunity to see the Cold Roses stuff in the future.
to the drunk assholes:
I'm blaming you for any disappointment with the show; Ryan Adams kicks ass.
