Wes' Weekly Hip Hop News Roundup | (Dec 07, 2006)

TRAVIS BARKER & THE GAME (CRED)
Travis Barker & The Game

So far The Game is the main contender, aside from Ghostface, for Hip Hop Album of the year. Check out his AOL Sessions featuring Travis Barker of Blink 182 here. More info here.

Ghostface speaks on More Fish.

As previously mentioned, KRS-One is playing Southpaw tonight and tickets are still available. He's at SOB's on Monday. Lupe Fiasco is at SOB's Tuesday, and elsewhere later.

XXL Mag has a feature on how Clipse has become the press' darling, including the hipster press. Oh Word reviews their recordin bulletpoint format.

Read a Raekwon interview on Format Mag. Via Spine Mag. Also check this youtube video from a recent live performance at BB Kings where he speaks his mind on Jay-Z's new album.

Speaking of, watch Jay-Z's new video for Lost nes here

Freekey Zeekey of Dipset fame (?) signed a multi-million dollar record deal two days after getting out of jail.

To see exactly what is wrong with hip hop watch the Fly High RMX video by Jim Jones. Then on the same page watch Blood Diamonds by Nas to recover somewhat.

Listen to Nas' Can't Forget About You. For the final tracklisting with producers credits to Hip Hop Is Dead go here.

Lil' wayne is back on crack. Dissing Jay-Z (the new favorite target for dissatisfied rappers) and Clipse.

Alice SmithA swift pull to the left side of this post. Alice Smith is a soulful singer that's very much worth checking out. I went to see her perform at the Nokia Theatre last week (last year I saw her at Joe's Pub). Underrated has a review/artist of the week post with MP3's and AllHipHop has a feature as well.

Download a new Saigon mixtape over at at Nahright, read an interview here and watch a confusing episode of JustBlazeTV with a BLAZING beat and Saigon rapping over it here. Saigon claims he has Just Blaze's hottest beats saved for his upcoming (ha) album and that Just is holding it back coz he works a little slow.

The Roots get into a fight in the Netherlands. I apologize for my people (editors note: Wes is from the Netherlands). Watch the video here.

Watch legend Scarface perform with a full band.

Read a short feature on Naledge over at the Smoking Section.

In this week's WTF category, watch the trailer to what is looking like the most incredible hip hop related movie ever. Produced by G-Unit and starring Spyder Loc and guesting Master P.

Ludacris plays CT Friday.

ALSO
* Jay-Z has a doll.
* Muhammad Ali invented rap.

My God! Jim Jones must be a minion of the devil....oh well P. Diddy's there so we can be certain of that.

This corporate whoredom is making me nauseous. This video should have a warning ahead of it warning anyone with any standards or conscious. Young black men, please avert your eyes and still on your own grind.

nauseous means you nauseate someone else. i believe you meant it's making you nauseated. or, better yet, it's nauseating you.

Well...you obviously haven't heard the record that the Coup put out this year, or the Roots "Game Theory" record. Those two, plus "Fishscale" make a great trio of Hip-hop records for the year. The Game? ...I doubt it.

Travis Barker? Ugh. Anyone see him on CSI? Worst acting ever. Worse than K Fed.

i've heard both and enjoyed both very much. to me the game's album was better overall. i REALLY liked the roots album at first and still think it's one of the very best of the year, but i've noticed playing it less and less and not missing it much. whereas fishscale i have had on repeat since it came on, same with the game. plus all i said was that those two were rivaling each other for best record of the year, there's more
