United Palace Theatre

Tickets go on (pre)sale Saturday for two NYC Bloc Party shows on March 30th & 31st. One catch - the shows are taking place at United Palace Theatre located at the corner of Broadway & 175th St. One more catch - this theatre has seats (see above)...3500 of them to be exact. (also, I don't know the presale password).

Bloc Party is also one of the confirmed acts (as is Interpol) for SXSW this year (March 14-18), so there will almost definitely be more March tour dates announced soon. For more Bloc Party stuff, like MP3 covers by other bands, check out Blog Party.

Tour with Panic!, crappy new pop album, and now this. Another step closer to done with this band.

Bloc Party = officially the new Coldplay.

For those that care, the pre-sale password is "weekendinthecity" ...

Posted by C | January 6, 2007 10:58 AM

It worked for me with just "weekend". Try both, I guess!

Just got the password on a google blog search! Thanks BV for the info! 6th row! I'd post it but scalpers suck.

Posted by Jennie | January 6, 2007 11:07 AM

what starts with the first row AA?

Posted by Anonymous | January 6, 2007 11:09 AM

I got AA on Saturday...assuming that is the front row...

Posted by C | January 6, 2007 11:11 AM

Interestingly, any password works that starts with "weeken"

Posted by C | January 6, 2007 11:19 AM

$91 bucks for two tickets. I think i'm gonna pass on this one. too bad.

Posted by AC | January 6, 2007 11:29 AM

What is the first row in this theater? A or AA? Anyone know?

Posted by BP | January 6, 2007 11:31 AM

I just picked up a couple tickets at row MM - I'm pretty sure AA is the first row. $91 is steep but it's the damn fees. Also just noticed the address: 4140 Broadway at 175th Street
Wow

Some updated pics of the venue on their site:

should be interesting...

Posted by JK | January 6, 2007 11:37 AM

At the Loews in New Jersey the first row is A and UPT is also a Loews. But who knows.

Posted by BP | January 6, 2007 11:47 AM

this place looks amazing!

The United Palace Theatre is located at 4140 Broadway. The Palace Theater is at 1564 Broadway. Different places.

If anyone can find the correct seating chart and provide a link it would be very much appreciated. I can't find it.

As Bloc Party is the new Coldplay, Interpol playing SXSW is most definitely the best part of this post. Anyone know more about them touring/their new album?

Posted by Les! | January 6, 2007 5:46 PM

Boy is that new album a stinker!

Case in point - for those that haven't heard it - the first lyric is:
"I'm trying to be heroic in an age of modernity"

I dont know about heroic, but Kele - you got schlocky down pat.

Uch. consider me disappointed.
shouldve know when they goofed around covering coldplay way back at bowery ballroom - they werent goofing.

Posted by JC | January 6, 2007 11:08 PM

Wow...JC's disappointed. He'd better go make-out with the new releases rack at Other Music, and get himself feeling better.

Posted by Louie | January 6, 2007 11:58 PM

Posted by chris | January 7, 2007 1:04 AM

Louie-
Don't knock making out with the OM new releases rack till you try it - will blow your mind. Unlike the new Bloc Party album.

Posted by JC | January 7, 2007 11:12 AM

Nearly $15 in fees? Jesus

Posted by klaus_kinski | January 7, 2007 4:45 PM

totally lame.

Posted by Anonymous | January 8, 2007 12:28 AM

how is Bloc Party the new Coldplay?

Posted by Anonymous | January 8, 2007 9:23 AM

this place is an old church and bloc party is the only event listed ...the question is:

DO THEY SERVE ALCOHOL?

Posted by jojo | January 8, 2007 5:22 PM

it's not an old church, but rather an renevated old movie theater.

Posted by Anonymous | January 8, 2007 5:33 PM

Wow! Kele is gay or bi...or at least he's possibly still in the decision making process. It might not be news but I found it to be downright surprising. Good for him. It certainly doesn't change my opinion about BP's music. I've seen them live quite a few times and they've grown on me (fantastic '06 Coachella gig in 100 degree heat; stormy and drunken Stone Pony gig; solid Brooklyn show but Secret Machines stole that even in the daylight). I like knowing that Kele's confused about his sexuality. Frankly, it will make listening and seeing them a bit more exciting. The real fun part is watching Tong on the drums...that's entertainment.

Happy Tuesday and get out to see a show, any show.

Posted by SFOtoJFK | January 9, 2007 5:35 AM

any truth that final fantasy is opening these shows???

Posted by matt | January 9, 2007 10:06 AM

final fantasy is opening the San Francisco show...

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2007 10:16 AM

i've been inside the theater, it is magnificent.
Can someone break down these ridiculous fees into per ticket and per order charges? I doubt the theater has a box office; I believe the "official" box office is listed as Mercury Lounge on houston but don't quote me on this.

Posted by gc | January 12, 2007 11:05 AM

Just wanted to let everyone know..
There is a new pre-order offer from Insound.com- the first 1,000 orders for the new album receive a 7"

single! This is the link: www.insound.com/blocparty

I'm not sure about international orders, but it's U.S. based if that helps.

It's an old theatre that is currently a church and best known as the place where malcolm x got shot. no box office. i seriously doubt there will be any booze. I'd really like to see this place as a venue more often as it is breathtaking and historic--and right in my hood.

Posted by bronxie | January 16, 2007 2:06 PM

no booze would suck but yeah maybe that will be the case. actually this is NOT where malcolm x was shot...that was the audubon ballroom on broadway between 165th and 166th, where there is now a memorial to him...anyway looking forward to the show!

Thank you for the correction ,
It would be nice if the people who don't know what they are talking about would keep their mouth and misinformation to themselves.
Malcom X was not shot at the Palace theatre .You obviously do not know your history.
The Palace theatre is Spacious, Gracious and Palacial they do sell beer and wine on occassion depending on the event. You can see good from any seat.

I haven't been to this theater before and have an extra set of tickets I'm trying to get rid of. Does anyone know if the orchestra seats go AA-ZZ before going to single letters A-Z? So row D is really about 30 rows from the stage? Thanks.

Posted by Stacey | December 6, 2007 2:22 PM

The theater looks nice. Just sharing this site. Not sure when they will reach to Brooklyn but hey, who knows.
