are there websites you use to get sxsw info or are you just emailed info separately by band mailing lists, publicists, etc? i'm looking for some sites with early info on them and was wondering if you know of any?

is it worth hitting sxsw only for the weekend? i know it starts wednesday... is it a waste to go if one has to miss the first few days or do the good acts typically continue all weekend?

IMO it would still be worth going to SXSW for the weekend. I wouldn't buy a wristband or a badge but there is a lot of free shows both at night and during the day.

[ MENEGUAR ]
"Jeremy Earl, Christian Deroeck, Jarvis Taveniere and Justin Wertz first played together in Sheryl's Magnetic Aura. In early 2004, the 4 remaining members decided to start over. Meneguar started in the spring of 2004. Since then they've been writing, recording, living together and rolling around like cats." - Meneguar's Website. These angry boys jump around and yell and spit out catchy, intricate punk influenced rock songs - conjuring disassembled and disjointed memories of past bands as diverse as Missions of Burma, Hüsker Dü, and the Meat Puppets. One of the best and most unique straight ahead rock bands in New York, for serious. Recent (re)release on Troubleman Unlimited. Shares a member with Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice. Mission of Burma style riffs beneath intense, goosebump inspiring 3-part harmonies.

[ Aa aka BIG A little a ]
Multi-percussionist choreographed noise & flashing lights & sweat & (most of the time) stationary marching band explosion. Increasingly complex and electronic with more yelling. New record is awesome. "Aa (BIG A little a) has a very swank one-sided LP out on Narnack. It has a very beautiful way of shifting its center in unexpected ways. The single side of music is a fat tableau of the kindsa sounds that young people should be making and enjoying in bistros from here to Kalamazoo. Here they club out bite-sized hunks of neo-no, new-wave-electro-murk, disco-noise readymades, French duck calls and a buncha other stuff. And it sounds quite pleasing!" - Thurston Moore, Arthur Magazine

[ TINY MASTERS TODAY ]
10 years old, 12 years old, and the drummer from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion make stripped down as heck all ages garage rawk - easily the best new band in Brooklyn this month. Already the darlings of the international press, Artrocker cover stars and all.
