Cool idea, too bad it's in Red Hook.

Yeah, too bad it isn't on Bedford Avenue. What FUN that would be.

In fairness, of all the supposedly "up and coming" or already there neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Red Hook is easily the most annoying to get to. I think this is pretty well understood about the neighborhood.

woo! sissy spacek is my favorite band!

it's a ten minute walk from the F train max. Well worth it for the very best venue in the city (excepting maybe Bowery and the Hustler Club).

OK, a 10 minute walk from the F train. But let's be reasonable here. What he or she was implying is that getting to Red Hook is annoying. It's a fair argument. Everyone in Brooklyn knows that any discussion about why Red Hook has not become the next Williamsburg or Park Slope or Greenpoint that so many want it to become is because of its transportation problem.

"Yeah, too bad it isn't on Bedford Avenue. What FUN that would be."

Don't get me wrong, if there was a button to destroy Bedford Ave and all the hipsters with asymetrical haircuts, I would be the first one to push it, but it's not about cool. Red Hook is far, PERIOD.

"it's a ten minute walk from the F train max."

But that's after already being an hour on the F train! A long walk (which is more than ten minutes) after a long train ride is not good for business.

I love it how Red Hook residents were so happy they finally got a supermarket. Can you believe it? People, in the year 2006, were happy to finally get a supermarket. This fact alone demonstrates how much Red Hook sucks.

"all the hipsters with asymetrical haircuts"

do people even have asymetrical haircuts anymore? i feel like people just think they do...

Yeah...it sucks that they were happy about it.

Somehow a post about shows in Red Hook still manages to get Williamsburg hater comments? That's gotten old.

Anyways, I like The Hook & the trek to Red Hook is worth it. It's a bit out of the way, but nothing major.

Last year the club provided shuttle service from the Carroll St. subway stop.

Of course the day I went, the guy with the van called in sick. There were no signs posted and no notes on the club's site, so people sat around waiting for nothing.

Still better than the G train.

There can never be enough Bedford hater comments. Never.

These guys are from Japan and who gives a shit.

Seriously, if your idea of testes-tickling fun is staring at an Apple logo for 40 minutes, you will cream in your jeans during Merzbow's set. You'll punch yourself in the balls because you went all the way to Red Hook to see it, but still. Only highlights: Enema Syringe and Evil Moisture.

Actually the first year they held the No Fun Fest it was at the North Six. Say what you will about Bedford Avenue (and you will of course because other people's lives concern you so much) but there is an obvious advantage to getting out of the subway and walking a few blocks to a club, rather than waiting for a shuttle service.

But perhaps having it in Red Hook is exactly the point: This is difficult music to listen to, man, and the commute should be just as grinding.

Posted by will | January 4, 2007 10:08 AM

I agree, i think the commute is supposed to be part of the process. It's a night of various types of self-torture.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2007 10:20 AM

I bet the members of the audience will still talk to each other during the sets even though they'll have to be diehards to go to this fest.

Including being shot at from the nearby projects.

Hopefully most of you whiny bitches don't show up.

Posted by nate | January 4, 2007 1:26 PM

Sounds like nate was priced out of better neighborhoods. Enjoy NYC while you can, you will eventually end up back in the midwest.
