NYC radio gets more James Blunt, The Fray & (Jessica Simpson's boyfriend) John Mayer

WOO HOO!
"This morning at 5 a.m., CBS Radio flipped WNEW/New York City, launching Fresh 102.7. The soft music station targets women 25-44 and will be highly focused on the 30 to 40-year-old woman with an emphasis on songs released in the last decade. The programming will include artists like John Mayer, James Blunt, Alicia Keys, Marc Anthony, The Fray and Dido." [FMQB]

(sigh) Finally a good radio station in New York.

I think that's the only station that comes in clear on my $5 clock radio - it's quite nice to wake up to.

Speaking of WNEW - does anyone know where I can find an MP3 of the WNEW version of Roadrunner by Joan Jett? I think she may have more than one specialized version out there, but the one I want has the spoken lines, "I'm on the West Side Highway/cruising up to the GW bridge down by the powerline/I see all the neon and it's cold out/I got my radio on" and I think she specifically mentions WNEW.

Is it completely boring to still complain about how miserable NY area radio is? It really blows my mind. Not one modern rock station. Nothing cutting edge. 107.1 The Peak (I think it's called) is totally decent, but broadcasts out of Westchester, so good luck with that.

At first it made me sad, then it made me angry, now I'm just confused. Maybe this new direction of NY radio is indicative of the new direction of NYC...Yuppie moms, Jamba Juices, Starfucks.

there's tons of great radio in the NYC area-- your problem is that you like shitty music.

Would it kill them to get NYC a rock radio station?

WFUV plays some alternative/"indie" rock that isn't top-40 crap, but it's all folk-tinged. Fortunately for me I don't mind. Long live public radio!
