NYC venues Sin-e and R&R closing?

Last night two different people told me that two different NYC music venues are closing, or already closed.

1) R&R - the short-lived meatpacking district venue is possibly already closed

2) Sin-e - the lower east side venue is supposedly closing in April.

As many of you know, Sin-é (pronounced shin-ay) was an important music venue exposing many New Yorkers to vital talent in the early 90's. Located on St. Mark's Place in the East Village, Sin-é gave wings to such performers as Katell Keineg, Jeff Buckley, and David Gray. The informal atmosphere and devoted regular audience were instrumental in creating a fertile musical scene that flourished until Sin-é closed it's doors in the mid 90's.
Sin-e re-opened in its current LES side location in 2003.

Gosh, who needs venues in NYC when you have the virgin megastore, the apple store, and the subway system. Why not just have all small shows at Starbucks?

No!!! I love Sin-e! It's one of my favorite little venues! The Friction shows there are always great. But I guess they'll just find somewhere new to host them. Boo.

Thanks for the info, though.

Is Sin-é closing for good, or just relocating at a date TBD?

So sad. We've played Sin-e three times in the last three months. Each time the sound, staff and audience were great.

DID JG from the Generals & Majors just tell us to eat poo? Why would he say something so offensive and crass. Thats is so not the Generals and Majors style.

Anyone have any more information on R&R closing? I too heard they closed on 1/19. But I just went to their site and their homepage now says "Check out the Calendar Page for info on upcoming shows". It didn't say that last week. Doesn't sound like a place that is shutting down. I've emailed them, but no reply. Thanks.

Noo! Why is Sin-é closing? I'm going to New York in the autumm, and I was really looking forward to see the place where Jeff Buckley started his career.

Hey Liz, the original Sin e where Jeff played was on St Marks between 1st and A. Its probably a tapas bar or sushi place at the mo' ... unfortunately, that beast "gentrification" reared its ugly head many years ago in the East Village ... the same beast that took CBGB's, Continental and is now setting its sites on the Lower East Side.

If you go in and ask the nice folk at www.stdymphnas.com, they'll give your the original address, it was just a few doors down.
