The View are young (and played Mercury Lounge)

I sat this one out....

The View

"The View are four young (seriously is one of them 12?) band that jumped around the stage and spouted a lot of babble that I don't think anyone in the crowd understood." [Underrated]

"Most people this side of Atlantic have taken to calling the underaged (they seriously look 12!!) lads 'The Scottish Monkeys'." [Music Slut]

"The four piece may look 13 years-old and sing about the trials of wearing the same jeans for four days straight, but they can kick some serious licks and basslines." [Music Snobbery]

"Probably the youngest looking band I've ever seen play a NYC club (besides Smoosh), these kids play a kind of sloppy but heartfelt pop, much like a cross between The La's and The Libertines, with a little Wonder Stuff thrown in for good measure." [Extrawack]

"The View took the stage, and in a sign of my age, the first thing that ran through my head was 'Dear god, they're babies!' They made the Arctic Monkeys look like elder statesmen." [Sound Bites]

"My first observation was how freakin' young these kids are." [Tripwire]

"Armed with thick accents and Libertines-fueled energy, the upstarts belted out music mature beyond their years." [SPIN]

"spouted a lot of babble"

That would be the Dundee/Glasgow accent ;)

I'm a little surprised by the positive reviews out there. I think they were pretty weak. I posted a review too.

"I think they were pretty weak. I posted a review too."

You were at the second night...looks like the first night (where all the reviews listed were from) was the place to be.

good point although the Music Snobbery post was from last night's show. You'd think that after getting first night jitters out of the way, they'd come out stronger.

Hasn't their gear been stolen yet?

the late show was probably past their bedtime.

I was at the first night and thought the band were ok (neither good nor horrid). They sounded too much like they were trying to imitate Star Spangles (who I really like) at first to really impress me. They started to get a bit more interesting toward the end of the set but it was hard to really form an impression as they went off after 30 minutes.

I took a couple pictures at the show and have them posted to my blog BrooklynRocks (http://brooklynrocks.blogspot.com)
