the week in Dance w/ David Bruno (01/04/07)
Two new BrooklynVegan features in two days! Three weekly rundown posts total: hip hop, comedy, and now: DANCE.
Help me welcome David Bruno to the site. He's been involved with dance music for the past ten years, both as a DJ, and as an employee of an independent record label. You know him from his blog Slap You in Public and the many parties he throws in and around NYC. He DJ'd the free BrooklynVegan day show on Saturday during CMJ.
His new party "People Don't Dance No More kicks off this Friday at Club Element - yeah the old Bank next door to Mercury Lounge. He shares resident DJ duties with Blair from Music for Robots - plus there's lots of special guests (see full list of events below). To help kick things off, we're giving away two tickets to the inaugural event in this inaugural. Keep reading to find out how to win.
And without further ado, David Bruno....

Hey Boy, Hey Girl. Superstar DJs, here we go!
"If it was anyone's year in dance, it had to have been the year of Ed Banger. The architects of the new wave of Parisian dance, Ed Banger Records is helmed by Daft Punk's manager Pedro Winter (aka Busy P).
"With my 10 years experience behind Daft Punk, it was time to pass the knowledge to the kids. The idea with ED BANGER RECORDS is to give unknown artists a chance. The music must be modern, not only electronic, let’s say contemporary sounds." [from Pedro's self-bio courtesy of VICE Records]What makes the label fantastic is how diverse the roster and sound has become. They effortlessly pull influences from French House, Disco, Electro, and Hip-Hop with the intention of making you shake (or bang) it. Exhibit B(anger): this teaser video for Justice's new single, Phantom:
If you need to catch up on the year o' Ed Banger, VICE Records has your back. Ed Rec Vol. 1 is released digitally on January 23, 2007. DJ's can pick up their vinyl copies over at Turntable Lab.

i want to do a column, too. this week in existentialism.
anyways, i love the layout still. this blog is getting bigger everyday. in five years, it will be on our walls and with more space in our psyches.
