The NY Times said Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway was one of the ten best Broadway shows in 2006.
The show that gave Broadway a revitalizing shot of downtown street cred. Combining blatant vulgarity with a refined appreciation of smoky lounge-act song stylings, Justin Bond (as the breakdown-prone chanteuse Kiki) and Kenny Mellman (as her infinitely patient accompanist) managed to celebrate and subvert showbiz stamina and sentimentality in one whiskey-perfumed breath.Even though I didn't see any Broadway shows in 2006, I'm all for the Times' decision! The photos you see in this post are from Kiki & Herb's hilariously ingenious off-Brodway holiday show at Joe's Pub on November 26th, 2006.
This month you have the chance to see them at Joe's Pub again - every Sunday night - January 14th, 21st, & 28th. Justin Bond is also hosting Weimar NY on the 19th.
