R.I.P.
northsixlogo.jpg

Northsix's final show with Radio 4 and The Big Sleep was scheduled to start in just a few hours. Now this sad note is posted on the closing venue's website:

**WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THAT, FOR REASONS BEYOND OUR CONTROL (ConEdison disconnected power to the building one day too early), TONIGHT'S FINAL NORTHSIX SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE TO THOSE WHO PURCHASED TICKETS AND, ESPECIALLY, TO THE BANDS THAT SO GRACIOUSLY AGREED TO PLAY OUR LAST SHOW.

IF YOU PURCHASED TICKETS VIA TICKETWEB, A REFUND WILL BE ISSUED AUTOMATICALLY. IF TICKETS WERE PURCHASED AT THE VENUE, PLEASE MAIL TICKETS TO:
Northsix
Ticket Refund
66 North 6th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11211

That sucks for all involved...except Apollo Heights, Jealous Girlfriends, Unlove, and Ahoi who all played there last night.... which ended up being the actual "last night" ever at Northsix.

Ted Leo, who played there the other day, needs extras for a video shoot in Brooklyn this Sunday. Bright Eyes needs extras too.

i am surprised to say i was (one of the few) there for 'the last night ever at northsix'...missed ahoi, but unlove, jealous girlfriends, and apollo heights provided a nice swan song for the venue. sucks that it's closing...always one of my faves.

"Wow, ConEd actually did something early"

That is really fucking funny. Nice one.

Reminds me of the last week at Wetlands. Last shows never happened.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2007 11:35 PM

I knew I should have gone to see the Jealous Girlfriends last night. What a drag.

What a waste of my night. I think club owners can be a little more responible for things like this. "Wahhh, Con Edison, waaahhh". Don't book the show that close to when your stupid venue is giong to be shut down and renovated into another guido club.

Posted by Not Surprised | February 1, 2007 10:43 AM

not surprised- you sound like the typical kind of clueless loud-mouth one would expect to find at a Radio 4 show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 10:50 AM

people who call others "clueless loud mouths" should really have more guts and not do it anonymously.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 12:25 PM

That's insane. Then again, it _is_ Feb 1st, wouldn't Con Ed normally shut off power at the end of the month anyway? I'm surprised they cut it so close, they don't need power to clean up the club & stuff?

Posted by Marlon | February 1, 2007 1:13 PM

maybe they just didn't sell enough tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 1:34 PM

the landlord is at fault here, not the club-- landlord pays coned. people who were living upstairs got screwed too, was supposed to move out and had to do so in the dark yesterday, no light no heat carrying furniture. fun.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 1:47 PM

Confirming what the above person said. The landlord stopped paying. Everyone had to move out yesterday in the cold and dark, by candlelight. It was pretty awful.

whoever wrote this is a TOTAL TOOL!

Talk about "Wahhh, Wahhh." You're just pissed because you had nothing else to do but watch Top Chef. Dude, Con Edison is real and shit like this actually does happen unexpectedly.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 4:00 PM

wait, top chef was on? fuck

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 4:20 PM

waaah. what do you expect when you live in the same building as rock venue in brooklyn. oh, we're cool. we live in a closet apartment that we pay $3,000 for, but wait, we're on North Six street where everyone goes...but wait, everyone is getting kicked out because nobody really cares about you except for the goons who are making all of the money. who is the landlord of the building? I'm gonna kick his ass.

Top Chef Finale blew anyway. Ilan's a half-rate cook at best, and Marcel shouldn't have been there in the first place. Sam was the Top Chef in my opinion.

And what's this whole NorthSix thing? I just moved into Williamsburg two months ago.

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 9:02 PM

North Sex? i dont get it why are they not allowing people from the north to have sex? is the electric company protestant or something?

Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 10:16 PM

Whoever wrote this is a liar. ConEd wil not just simply "turn off" your power a day early. The account holder had to have called and requested this specifically on that evening. This is bullshit. Even if after months and months they hadn't paid their bills it is too much of a coincidence that it would be turned off "a day early"

Bullshit. There is more to this story. Some jealous hick hipster infighting between shitty bands or promoters perhaps?

Posted by Slevin | February 2, 2007 9:32 AM

Exactly. This is one of the easiest scapegoats in the book. Who is gonna argue this? As I said earlier, nobody really cares, people get screwed, but some dude is making money.

"Whoever wrote this is a liar. ConEd wil not just simply "turn off" your power a day early."

I'll have to check out this top chef show.

Posted by Not Surprised | February 2, 2007 11:06 AM

Why did NorthSix close? That's really a damn shame -- they had some great shows there. Bburg sucks more by the day.

Posted by BOB | February 2, 2007 12:50 PM

why can't you assholes just let the place go with a little dignity? They obviously had a dispute with their landlord, why do you have to worry about what "the rest of the story" is? It's probably none of your business.

Posted by nunya | February 2, 2007 12:53 PM

arguing about something like this is funny. on that note there is nothing obvious about having a dispute with your landlord hours before a show and not telling ANYONE about it and screwing the bands and the fans (and the people living in the building).

I talked to someone who worked at Northsix. Apparently, Northsix paid for electricity to their landlord. During the last few months of their lease, the landlord pocketed the money and did not pay the electric bill for the building. It was a crazy coincidence that coned turned off the power on the day of the last show. The Bowery Presents people tried to have the account reinstated in their name so N6 could have the last show. The elec. company did not allow this to happen.
N6 had nothing to do with "screwing" anyone out of anything. Northsix was just another one of the tenants in the building just like the people who were supposedly living upstairs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2007 10:40 AM

Bull. It is not so easy for ConEd to stop service to residential customers because of the landlord not paying.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2007 12:47 PM

they sure can if it's not a residential building.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2007 4:54 PM

I sent an e-mail inquiring about volunteering for the Ted Leo video but I didn't get a reply. It's just as well, it's going to be hella cold tomorrow.
