2007 McCarren Pool free concert schedule, PoolAid & nudity
Deerhoof @ McCarren Pool - Aug 13, 2006 (MORE)
JellyNYC, the company behind the free summer concerts at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn, have this to say
We will be producing nine consecutive FREE Sunday concerts at The McCarren Park Pool bordering Williamsburg and Greenpoint Brooklyn. Get ready to slip 'n' slide, get stung in the dodgeball pit, get fat on burgers and beer, and listen to some of our favorite bands in the the summer sun.Depending on who ends up playing, PoolAid may or may not be happy - they like free events, but they "want to see everyone in the neighborhood attending events at the pool, not just hipsters".JELLYNYC's 2007 POoL PARTIES will announce the exact dates soon.
JELLYNYC will also be co-producing three other dates at the McCarren Park Pool, including a benefit for the Open Space Alliance (OSA) on June 10 (ticket cost will be no higher than $15), a FREE show on June 21st celebrating the first annual Make Music New York Festival, as well as a FREE event with our dear friends The Brooklyn Brewery in mid September--Brooklyn's own Roctoberfest. For those of you who don't know, in Germany Octoberfest starts in September.
Of Montreal was one of the big bands that brought "hipsters" to the neighborhood last summer. Insert your skinny dipping joke here. Of course that would require water.

So any bands announced yet? Bloc Party played McCarren Pool last year, they ended the show with a Super Soaker fight.

Hahah Anonymous -- "I'm already waiting for beer"
You totally beat me to it. Those beer lines were completely out of control last year. I was trying to figure out whether they did that intentionally (to try to slow people down) or if they were really just too stupid to realize after the first few shows that people were waiting HOURS to get beers. Either way, it was completely unacceptable, and a real buzzkill on the entire experience. Literally.

For the 2007 shows? Pah. Those of us in the know are already in waiting rooms for all the 2008 shows.

PoolAid loves the events that JellyNYC put on last summer and we're glad to see them back this summer and we're really happy to see they are collaborating with OSA on a fundraiser. We think that Jelly and Sens Productions helped raise the profile of the pool and opened the door for other community groups to put on events there this spring, summer & fall.
See you all Feb 27 at Union Pool, 7-9pm
OHHH YEAH!
PS to 4:31p the concerts are free. no tickets necessary.

Those long beer lines were at the shows that weren't free not the Pool Parties.
JELLYNYC puts on the best shows in New York. Ever been to their shows? Always great lineups. I just saw they have Shout Out Out Out Out and 120 Days at Southpaw next week.

Actually I had no problem at all getting beer at the Sonic Youth/YYYs show. And I must have gotten about five or six of them. Either they had solved the problem by then or I was cutting in line and was too drunk to care.

Whoever goes to a concert and needs a beer so badly that they are willing to wait for hours to get one deserves to wait that long. Can't you give up the drinking for an hour and a half and just watch the band play? You are at a conccert not a bar....

fuck that, we want to get krunk.

Beautiful girl in the bikini at the slip 'n' slide, can I buy you a beer this summer?
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2007 7:05 PM
No. I'm straightedge.

Awesome, but why are they held on a Sunday? That's like ... the sleep, relaxation, family day, not get drunk and party.

Hipstor irony? Now you'll start talking about those crazy "trucker hats" or Vice magazine. I think the hipster stereotypes are 5 or 6 years out of date.

"You are at a concert not a bar"
That's one of the most retarded things I've ever heard and you're also probably not much of a "fun" person..in general. and in life.

Nah. It's the New York audience way. Drink and text message at shows, eat and text message at movies and plays. It's got nothing to do with what's going on in the front of the room. Duh.

BYOB suckas!

ok it's april now... do we get to know stuff? will we be blessed with more good shows before they build that monster stage for Whitesnake again? there's probably a newer post about this and my failure to properly navigate the Internet will be met with endless mocking. i hope brooklyn weisse will keep me stumbling around the pool again this year. bless their hearts.

The Disco Biscuits are going to blow that fuckin pool to pieces. You hipsters are all gonna get dosed to the nines. Have fun cleaning dirty needles and crack pipes off of the floor. Prepare to shit your pants when you scenester fucks hear this array of musical patterns and weaving textures. BALLS TO THE MOTHERFUCKIN WALL PSYCHEDELIA.

You gotta get a solid hip hop group called The Good People to rock the spot at the pool. These cats are the real deal when it comes to enjoyable, conscious, feel good hip hop. Check their myspace page at www.myspace.com/thegoodpeoplemusic. One guy is a dread from the Lower East Side and the other is a white dude from Long Island. They have an album out in Japan that's killin it and they've only done a few shows here in NY. When i saw them, i was really impressed and i think all they need is a crowd like what's at McCarren Pool. Check these dudes out...you won't be disappointed. They represent the missing element of real hip hop culture these days!!
