"how come we missed your list and Free Indie's"

I copy and pasted Free Indie's, and he probably just accidentaly left that category off.

congrats! x5

Don't forget Deerhoof! They were the highlight for me.

Posted by klaus_kinski | February 11, 2007 7:49 PM

yay you!

Posted by tricia | February 11, 2007 7:56 PM

The performance by Silversun Pickups was the clear highlight for me. However, the sound mix for their set was pretty bad.

I hate this show, I was outside freezing my ass off for 2 hours because it said there were going to be tickets available. At the last minute they informed everyone in line that no tickets were going to be available. Highlight of my night...When a scalper on the street told me he'd sell me a ticket for 35 dollars, so i asked if i could see it. "Hot Topic Presents Steven Malcolmus and the Jinks" that was awesome.

Metal Album of the Year: The Melvins - (A) Senile Animal - how is this metal?

Electronica/Dance Album of the Year: Thom Yorke - The Eraser - cuz when i wanna dance i listen to Thom Yorke

what a strange night.

Posted by Jonas | February 11, 2007 8:39 PM

congrats bv!!! you deserve it!

silversun pickups were awesome but david cross interviewing stephen malkmus was fantastic.
did anyone think the el-p set was kinda short?

Posted by contestant #2 | February 11, 2007 8:42 PM

It seemed like El-P got pissed that the crowd wasn't putting their hands up. I liked the sound of his new songs but walking off the stage early was quite lame.

I thought the sound for the whole night was horrible and so loud that it distorted. As a sound engineering major, I wanted to slap the mixer.

Gotta love the big round of applause BV got though.

David Cross was by far the best part of the show to me. Constantly hilarious.

congrats man

Congrats Brooklyn Vegan!

your probably right about el-p. it was sorta dissapointing. but whatever, malkmus played a great set and everybody was definitely into that. i dont know much about sound engineering but i enjoyed the show anyway.

also if anyone has more pictures from the live show (not just promo pictures) can you post a link? i'm looking at you, bv! you get great shots.

Posted by contestant #2 | February 11, 2007 11:39 PM

You're lucky I took my name out of competition.

You deserve it, bro. I'll have a veggie patty in Park Slope in your honor.

Posted by MusicSnobbery | February 11, 2007 11:40 PM

Congratulations! Richly deserved.

Here's a zip of 4 songs from the show:

Malkmus - Baby C'mon
Tokyo Police Club - Nature of the Experiment
Deerhoof - Milkman
El-p - the new song thing

One day I might get around to doing the whole show... just too much work right now.

P.S. I seriously was bored to death by the Silversun Pickups set. I dunno what anyone sees in them. They have zero stage presence. Couldn't even tape them.

Posted by jason | February 11, 2007 11:51 PM

Yay, BV! Well-deserved. Congrats!

Posted by Nicole | February 12, 2007 12:21 AM

Was it just me, or was Malkmus really stoned during that awkward David Cross interview?

Posted by Shaq-Fu | February 12, 2007 2:02 AM

David Cross by far was the best thing about the night.

The sound was bad for most sets, but the kicker was how bad the thing was organized. Jr. High talent shows have less dead time. It was like the thing was thrown together in 2 hours. My first and last plug awards.

Posted by Andrew | February 12, 2007 2:07 AM

the malkmus/cross actors' studio segment was painfully awkward to watch.
really terribly unorganized.
congratulations bv though.
i used to love company flow. haven't really kept up with el-p and i'm sort of glad. the second song he did sounded okay though.
most of the performances were good, except for the sound, but expectedly short.

oh well, what can you really expect from a show with a $10 price tag?

should have gone to lindstrom at studio b after.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 2:23 AM

yay to BV!!!

I think you might be the only winner I agree with!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 2:39 AM

congrats bv!! and i love that wolf parade won for best video!!

Posted by maria | February 12, 2007 3:08 AM

Nothing says best online indie record store than Amazon.com

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 9:57 AM

Congrats BV!!!

Some commenter said, "Malkmus was great. Everyone was definitely into that." I disagree, unless you're referring to the backwards-baseball-hat-wearing goon who yelled to his friends just before his set, "Malkmus is my boyyyyy!" It's hard for me to say anything negative about Malkmus, but he bored the crap out of me and my friends -- and we were there to see him (and David Cross, who was awesome). Somehow he's become a noodler, like the Trey Anastasio of indie rock. I guess I was most disappointed by his set list. He played a few uncompelling songs off an upcoming album, the least catchy songs off "Face the Truth," nothing (I believe) off "Pig Lib," and only one song from "Stephen Malkmus." Needless to say, he played zero Pavement, which is a shame, considering he he had just received a lifetime achievement award. But whatever. Malkmus still rules.

I also disagree with a comment about the Silversun Pickups -- they were excellent, despite the sound quality and the brevity of the set. The "zero stage presence" comment is a bit harsh. It seem like they're really into their music, and that definitely came across on stage.

Posted by Grumpy Old Man | February 12, 2007 10:06 AM

Congrats! Right on!

Posted by MDK | February 12, 2007 10:08 AM

Hooray BV! Nobody needs to tell us you're the best.

Posted by drewo | February 12, 2007 10:16 AM

Malkmus was well worth the wait, IMHO, even though the setlist focus on new songs was pretty ballsy for a 40 minute show. Unfortunately, something happened to his voice between Plug and Maxwell's. He said he got a little one day flu or something... Oh well, he managed and I got a couple photos.

Best Album - Band of Horses
Best Indie Album - Yo La Tengo.

What's the difference?!? Isn't this a indie awards show?! Stupid

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 10:44 AM

BV, some might say BEST BLOG OF BALLS THYME

Posted by thigh master | February 12, 2007 11:12 AM

congrats bv.

Posted by k | February 12, 2007 11:28 AM

Nice work BV, you deserve it.

I predicted your victory...glad I was right.

Posted by Dodge | February 12, 2007 11:54 AM

You did it!!!

Posted by Nate | February 12, 2007 12:03 PM

Fuck the Plug Awards. The people who founded/run that shitty show really screwed up this year. Ask all the VIP's/bands/press who got cut from the guest list.

Posted by mike | February 12, 2007 12:53 PM

Thanks for fixing the list -- and congrats to YOU! And at least it's a better show when Nick Sylvester doesn't read the New Yorker from the stage, right?

Posted by Reid Davis | February 12, 2007 1:06 PM

fuck the VIP's!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 1:10 PM

I was also one of the unlucky people standing in line, It was posted online and Irving plaza box office was telling people over the phone to come in and get tickets at 7.
I'm not sure who to blame for the escapades of the night, but I think it's plug awards so I hate them now.

The issues regarding the guest lists and the waiting outside before getting shut out were DEFINITELY PLUG issues and not venue issues. It sucks if those issues ruined anybodys night.

I was there and was bored to tears by most of the performers, David Cross and Malkmus were the only highlights.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 2:23 PM

Congratulations. I was also out there waiting for tix, and the damn guest list line was 10 time the size of the ticketholders. I wasnt going to pay 50 for this crap, and according to the comments i didn't miss much. Also I went in at 1115 pm to get tix and fake a name, and there was a stack of "COMP" tickets there and the prick was like sold out, would nt even let me buy a pair for the last act. I was cold and now have windburn on my neck. Eff the Organizers.

Posted by Jp | February 12, 2007 2:49 PM

Eff The Organizers? Blame them for your stupid lazy ass not getting tickets when they were on sale?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2007 3:09 PM

Ya man, being lazy sucks.
See you at the Cold War Kids show.

What a fucking joke. Band of Horses? Come on. If this were really an award show in opposition to the Grammys it would have picked a better, more adventurous winner.

next time vote.

Man, by the time Malkmus finally played I was so sick of:
1. the cell-phone-texting, oversized-poodle purse-carrying, talk-through-everything, ug-boots-over-the-jeans-wearing, Long Island girls in front of me
2. Shitty sound
3. 40 minutes of set up/tear down between sets.
4. Ricky Schroder rapping and getting pissed the crowd didn't 'raise da ruuf'.

I left after Malkmus's 2nd song. What a disappointment (except for Cross).

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2007 1:39 AM

Well, to be factual, independent artists won becasue it is an award for INDEPENDENT artists, labels, radio stations, etc. Most major artists, labels, etc. are definetly NOT indy. That's what the Grammys and Mercury Prize (more or less) are for: major artists. Just to clarify.
