DOWNLOAD: Beirut - Postcards From Italy (you probably have this MP3)
Beirut @ McCarren Pool, Brooklyn (MORE)

Lets try this again. The following dates go on sale today @ Noon:
Beirut, 2007
May 6 @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC
May 7 @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC
And as previously announced, those going to Austin for SXSW will have the chance to see Beirut much sooner even - first at the Beggars showcase (Mar 14), and 2nd at a daytime Austin City Limits KEXP taping (Mar 16).
I'm also happy to report that Zach is currently doing well in his original home of New Mexico. In fact:
He's completely rested and working furiously on the next album. The band - minus trumpeter Kelly Pratt who is performing this year with Arcade Fire and is being replaced by his wife. Tracy Pratt - will be headed over to Albuquerque after SXSW to record their parts. Zach is borrowing the A Hawk and a Hacksaw studio/practice space while Jeremy and Heather spend the next six to nine months in Budapest, preparing for a big May UK tour with the Hun Hangar Ensemble. The whole new Beirut album is already in Zach's head, and about 50% recorded. It's very French.Speaking of French, Ear Farm presents "An evening of rock from Paris to (Zach's second home) Brooklyn" at Union Hall on March 3rd.

Ted Leo is at Webster on May 5th so they aren't playing there either.

The last time I saw a show at Webster hall the sound was awful, anyone been there recently? has it improved?

beirut was horrible at the pool party last summer. i dont think they're meant for that big an open space. hopefully the bowery will make them sound better.

I'm not trying to be funny or anything, but could someone explain the hype surrounding Beirut? Seriously, I don't understand. I listened to all of Gulag Orkestar several times through, and while it was entertaining enough, I can't for the life of me see what all the fuss is about.
If anything, all the faux-ethnic textures reminded me of nothing so much as a more pretentious version of Camper Van Beethoven, circa 1985 or 1986 (and yes, I'm giving away my age here).
Are they an awesome live act? Am I just missing something? I'm willing to be schooled, if anyone wants to help out here.
Posted by french fry joe | February 23, 2007 11:49 AM
Yes, a fucking great live act, at least in a small venue like the Khyber in Philly.
Posted by Benjamin | February 23, 2007 12:04 PM
I definetly wouldn't call them a great live act but they are good. IMO they need to play seated venues.

Well I wonder if Kelly Pratt will be at the Sunday show since the Arcade Fire are suppose to be playing NYC on May 7th to 9th.

dates fixed. thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 12:41 PM
Arcade Fire and Beirut in NYC on the same night. Cool.
Posted by Benjamin | February 23, 2007 12:42 PM
argh. i wish we had had more info about the arcade fire shows before i go ahead and purchase a ticket to beirut.
Posted by laika | February 23, 2007 1:31 PM
Here's the info on Arcade Fire - all 3 NYC shows will sell-out in about 6.8 seconds.
Posted by drewo | February 23, 2007 1:35 PM
just get a ticket for the 6th...
Posted by brassbonanza | February 23, 2007 1:36 PM
Why wpuld it be insane to see them in a seated venue. I don't I have ever seen anyone dancing at any of their shows.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 1:45 PM
anyone see beirut at soundfix last year? it was splendid.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 1:46 PM
any updates on the venue for the arcade fire?
Posted by alexander | February 23, 2007 1:54 PM
Will they honor the tix from cancelled Nov show?
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 2:19 PM
That Beirut dude is fronting so bad. Sorry, I'm sure he's a cool guy, but that's the saddest faux-world music indie trash I've ever heard. It's like, "dude I just learned this weird Bulagarian scale! grab your fluglehorn and your copy of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, the kids are gonna flip for this!!"
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 2:23 PM
"Will they honor the tix from cancelled Nov show?"
i think you were supposed to have returned those for a refund ages go...
Posted by anon | February 23, 2007 2:36 PM
they gave refunds from the november show. should have gotten an email or a call from ticketweb.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 2:36 PM
Just to clarify, the 2nd Beirut show in Austin during SXSW on March 16th is a live performance on KEXP's broadcast from Austin City Limits studios, NOT an Austin City Limits taping.

who's the jackass that works fridays at box office at merc? i just called and asked if a certain bowery presents show was on sale yet at box office and he said he couldn't find it and he said try buying online. my point was i'd rather have hard tix in case for any last minute reason i can't go and i can give them to friends much easier. he just hung up on me instead. asswipe.
Posted by mercury friday box office | February 23, 2007 4:55 PM
they use ticketweb at the mercury lounge. basically use the same website that the rest of us suckers use, yet they can print tickets there (without fees). i'm sure they have them available, but you'll have to go there in person.

After by hour long walk from the L train i made it there and got 2 tickets for Beirut on sunday...32 dollars for two and they're in my hand. But yes he is an asshole.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 5:15 PM
yeah that guy is a jackass. the girl that's usually there though is really nice.
to be fair, it must suck working there alone for the majority of the day, answering the same phone call.
Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2007 5:24 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2007 7:28 PM
So to get this straight for the daytime KEXP's broadcast from Austin City Limits studios will I be able to get in with a badge/wristband or am I going to need to get a ticket from elsewhere?
