David Cross taking over the world w/ Super Deluxe SXSW party, Plug Awards, Noise Pop, VICE TV, etc
This week's Comedy Canon is coming soon. This is just the prequel...

OLD NEWS: David Cross hosts the indie music Plug Awards at Irving Plaza in NYC this Saturday night. The show is of course sold out.
NEW NEWS: David Cross curated two days (March 16 & 17) of FREE & ALL AGES comedy and music at SXSW this year. Presented by the new comedy website Super Deluxe, this extravaganza may leave the bloggers wondering why nobody came to their party (I kid! I kid!). It's called "Mess with Texas" and it looks a little something like this:
Friday, March 16th (Hosted by David Cross) with: Les Savy Fav, The Black Angels, Gossip, Dead Meadow, Erase Errata, David Vandervelde, Matt & Kim, Danava, Brother Reade, Spindrift + special guest + Andrew WK discussing stuff. We even hear that MAYBE one of thse secret headliners might be Ghostface Killah! "Both shows will be taking place at Red Seven, 611 E. Sixth St. Austin, TX." I need to get my plane ticket.Saturday, March 17 (Hosted by Patton Oswalt) with: The Walkmen, Sloan, The Black Lips, The Ponys, Fucked Up, Deerhunter, Fatal Flying Guiloteens, Ladyhawk, The Carbonas, The Cubical + two headliners that will be announced next week.

MORE DAVID CROSS & INDIE ROCK NEWS!
- DAVID ON PANEL AT SXSW ON 3/16: David will be part of a panel discussion about music and comedy on March 16th. The panel will include David Cross, Patton Oswalt, Jon Wurster (Superchunk, Robert Pollard, The Best Show on WFMU), Andy Earles (Just Farr A Laugh, "Where's the Street Team?" feature in Magnet), Megan Jasper (Sub Pop) and my personal entrepreneurial idol and man behind Chunklet Henry Owings. The discussion will be moderated by Bob Mehr.
- DAVID TO APPEAR AT HOT TUB VARIETY SHOW IN NYC - 2/22/07: Hot Tub Variety Show is a really fun variety show that takes place at Comix and is hosted by Kristen Schaal and Kurt Braunohler. Other guests have yet to be announced, but David Cross is confirmed. It will be so much fun, I promise.
- DAVID TO EMCEE NOISE POP: San Francisco indie music festival Noise Pop celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The event happens February 27-March 4 and David Cross will emcee on 2/27. The Comedians of Comedy featuring Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn will be at the festival on 3/4. See the overwhelming list of performers HERE.
- Also, David shows off his tats for the program Dos and Don'ts Friends on Vice Magazine/MTV's new video site, VBS.TV.

Excellent Friday and AMAZING Saturday show. Best line-up for a day party to be announced thus far. Have yet to spend time on the site, but Superdeluxe seems to know what's going on.

since clearly David Cross curated these shows and not the corporate entity Super Deluxe, it looks like this post may be under attack by a blogging campaign.

Not a blogging campaign, I can assure you that. Although I can appreciate it, I don't seek out this downtown comedy scene stuff either (if that's what it's called?) so I don't have too much interest in Superdeluxe.
I'm just a fan of the bands playing, that's all. A free Walkmen/Black Lips/Ponys/Fucked Up/Deerhunter show is, in my opinion, a pretty sweet afternoon from start to finish.

these shows are awesome.
IS IT WORTH BUYING A BADGE FOR SXSW?! im going with my boyfriend and it's SOOOO expensive.

u shouldnt buy a badge if you're just going to shows, but SXSW would sue me if they heard me say it.

so what do you recommend in terms of getting into shows and austin in general!!

You can see alot more music with a badge or a wristband. You can't buy tickets to any of the night showcases. If you're just going to see bands, I'd try to get a wristband. You'll probably need a badgeholder to buy you one (I think that each badgeholder is usually allowed to buy 1 or 2 wristbands), but they're much cheaper than badges (150 bucks or something like that it was last year) and you'll only need the priority that the badge offers for a show or two over the course of the week. There's definitely free stuff at night but if I was traveling all the way to Austin, I'd probably cough up a little more money to get the wristband.
You rarely (if ever) need a badge or wristband to get into any of the day parties.

La Hipster or L.A. Hipster? Because if you meant 'La Hipster' as in you're speaking French, then you should have written "L'hipster". Apostrophes replace e or a when preceding vowels or the letter h.
