Largehearted Boy's Interesting CD Releases This Week

DOWNLOAD: Phonograph - Watch and Ward (MP3)

Largehearted Boy brings us this week's (and every week's) interesting new releases. Looking down at the list, I'd just like to add that I think the one by Papercuts is really interesting too - plus I want to check out the new ones by BV show veterans Phonograph, and the Modular Records band The Softlightes. And it seems fitting that Sting picked this week to come out with a new album....And now I pass the mic...

Lucinda Williams The new, lush studio album, West, by alt-country's Lucinda Williams leads a sparse music release week. Other releases this week I can strongly recommend are Anais Mitchell's The Brightness, Tanakh's Saunders Hollow Times New Viking's Present The Paisley Reich, and the reissue of The High Strung's Moxie Bravo.

What new releases can you recommend? Is anything worthwhile missing from the list?

The Brightness is a great record.

I too can vouch for the new anais mitchell release. there's something refreshingly original, yet timeless and classic about her music. incredibly compelling. try to catch a live show if you can. the full effect of her charm and genius doesn't always translate on just the recordings.

I don't know why, but the title "interesting" CD releases really annoys me. "Interesting" is just such a beat word. When something is interesting it means that it provokes interest...interest being a state of curiosity or concern about or attention to something.

Basically, it means absolutely nothing. I motion that you think about what you really mean when you say "interesting," and call it something else.

p.s. I enjoy the information!

I'm with the English Boy--and damnit, that Phonograph song sounds awfully similar to a Wilco song--but which one? It's driving me crazy.

what's wrong with describing the albums as interesting? i think it's completely accurate. LHB may not have heard all the records yet, and might not want to, but thinks they may be 'of interest' to some readers?
Field Music is the best release on that list though!

WTF, another lute album from Sting? Actually, it's a DVD with a bonus CD, as I found out by clicking on the link to Amazon.com. The DVD is "an extended version of Sting's first-ever PBS special from Thirteen/WNET New York's Great Performances (airing February 26th, 2007)" and the CD is a live concert recording by Sting and Edin Karamazov. They performed songs that are on their first lute album, plus "the consummate hit 'Message in a Bottle' arranged for lute, as well as a rendition of the Robert Johnson blues classic, 'Hell Hound.'"
