There were so many good shows happening in NYC Saturday night (Feb 10, 2007) - Lifetime @ Bowery Ballroom, !!! @ Maxwell's (NJ), Vetiver & Vashti Bunyan @ Southpaw, Lindstrom @ Studio B, and Lily Allen @ Webster Hall to name a few. I stuck with just going to the Plug Awards.
How was Lily? Joly sent me a link to this cool pic:

Lily also recently played SNL, got in a fight with Jet, and hung out with Hot Chip and Lupe Fiasco in Australia:

Lupe is touring with the Roots (they both just lost the "best rap album" Grammy to Ludacris).
Lily has a few more U.S. tour dates before SXSW. Her setlist from Chicago below....

hum, i was at lily's show. really disappointing. she wasn't into it at all. even Smile sounded lame and the crowd hardly moved.
probably the lamest show i've seen in a while. and i like (some of) her tunes.
lucky the ones who had picked something else for that evening.

Damn it. I can't believe it. I forgot I had tickets to that Vetiver show. This has never happened to me before.

Sorry, Benjamin. It's understandable, though; the show was announced quite a while ago, and I know I bought tickets very early. Not to make you feel any worse, but it was a beautiful evening of music.

Disappointing? I couldn't believe what a vast improvement Lily's show was over the show at Hiro and her performance on SNL. She wasn't nervous at all, she performed the whole album plus the Kooks and Keane covers from the BBC Sessions, she was happy and energetic and humble and actually engaged the crowd instead of blending into the background. It was such a relief to finally see she can perform that way live. And after a truly awful set by LaCrate too that did nothing to warm up the crowd. It was sort of scary that it seemed like a Webster Hall bridge and tunnel club crowd attending the show but it seems like a sign she'll find greater success here too if that's who's buying tickets.

I was also under the impression that everyone had a great time at Lily's show. I really enjoyed it.

i second you ru. it was nice to have her back and see her relaxed and really perform in her element this time. i dont know where olivier was standing-but everyone was singing and dancing by me! i think she did a swell job.

Any girl that will talk about having gas and hating small dicks is good in my book.

i was at the lily show and i loved it. she seemed really energetic and the crowd seemed really into it. i definitely agree that LaCrate did a horendous opening job. Also, she said she wasn't feeling great but it really didn't show at all. you could feel the floor bouncing for most of the show and although it probably wasn't her best version of smile the rest of the set was great.

i thought her show was fantastic. really entertaining, she was into it, no pretension. she's really cute too, not the typical pop star. all hail lily.

I had a terrific time at Lily's show. She is probably the cutest person EVER.

I was at Webster Hall gig. LA rocks. She bloody had a sold out show! Her fans were there! She has a great personality. Definitely, a true performer. I loved her "sound effect" machine. I guess that will be last time I'll see her in concert....b/c she's going to be huge!!!!

I went to the Vetiver show. Vashti Bunyan was truly wonderful, mesmerizing. Some people left after her set so things were nice and relaxed for Vetiver, who were more rocking than some previous times I've seen them. This was the same thing that was at Carnegie Hall a week or so before.
Opener Danielle Stech-Homsy was also good - hypnotic drone-folk - and was joined by Sierra Casady on one song. She's playing Union Hall on weds - worth checking.

i had a ton of fun at the lily allen show...even though i felt like an old fart...at 25, it's rare that I'M the person that DOESN'T get carded at the bar...

lily allen show was awful. sound was terrible. while her voice can be nice, the overall impression is unenthused. uninspired. outfit was terrible. best for early teens with pop tastes. i don't think her lyrics or sound has lasting power. bored out of my mind at this concert. argh.
