New Violators (from Norway) MP3 + NYC & SXSW Tour Dates
DOWNLOAD: New Violators - Burma (MP3)
From their official bio
"New Violators is a newly formed 5-piece from Trondheim, Norway, which, following an already legendary first show at Oslo’s Mono Club during Summer 2006, has quickly become THE name to drop in Norway. Armed with a sound situated somewhere between ‘Born to Run’, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’, the band has already attracted the attention of various tastemakers including Pitchforkmedia’s Brandon Stosuy, who anointed them his favourite Norwegian find at one of this summer’s festivals."

From Oh My Rockness
"Norway's New Violators are a relatively new five-piece that became the talk of last summer's massively popular Oya Festival in Oslo (beating out The Knife, Cold War Kids and even Morrissey). Hey, 45,000 fans can't be wrong. The band plays intensely melodic synth pop that sounds like a much more optimistic Joy Division or the band Stellastarr* was trying to be." [Oh My Rockness]

Now that we have moved on from PB&J, I guess it is time for a new hype.

Peter Bjorn and John were great before the hype and will continue to be.
This band has three songs. I like them, but who knows where they'll be three months, let alone three years from now.
PB&J have lasting power. They've proven themselves.

pb&j on my sandwich, not any stage. what a genius way to plant your name in the psyche of indie fans. fuck you, you cutesy, fuckwad, throwaway band.
in 2 months time all of you will have forgotten all about peter, butthole and that other apostle.
what was the topic again? oh yeah, not important...only hype and no substance. nothing to see here, folks. move along.

"Armed with a sound situated somewhere between ‘Born to Run’, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’"
Um, this is about as descriptive as saying I live between the North Pole and the South Pole.
Note to all music bloggers: please stop the ridiculous name-checking. Just tell me about the music, and your reaction to the music.
It's structured noise made for a pair of ears, yet I get no indication here that you've even listened to it. Maybe you did, but you didn't blog about your listening. You blogged about the hype.
Le sigh.

This band sounds EXACTLY like Spandau Ballet. Seriously. Load up iTunes and listen to "Communication," "Lifeline," or "Only When You Leave." New Violators sound like a Spandau tribute band. Fun, but I have to laugh when mid-80s MOR pop has come back around as hipster music.

Hehehe.
-And I don't even know who Spandau Ballet is.

And I don't even know who Spandau Ballet is.
Kids these days, I swear.

Who cares if they sound like Spandau Ballet? Are Spandau Ballet playing Tonic? And if they did, would they sound like Spandau Ballet themselves? What's so wrong with making people dance?
