I agree with the top 2. they were both quite impressive when I saw them live.

the numbering of the list is messed up. (8,8,8,8, 12,12,12,12)

no Fiery Furnaces?

Why aren't TV on the Radio in the list?
Posted by ani | February 27, 2007 11:50 AM
five bands tied for eight.

>>> no Fiery Furnaces?
>>> Why aren't TV on the Radio in the list?
Good questions. I just looked back at the email and saw that the Deli was only accepting bands they considered "emerging". I guess TV on the Radio and Fiery Furnaces weren't eligible. I'll update the wording.

why do people like takka takka; they are terrible

How the hell is it the Forms aren't on that list??? And yet Bore-a Bore-a, I mean Takka Takka, gets on it. Did anyone go to that Southpaw show last week? The Forms were real hot, and every guy up there looked like they were having a good time. And the music is not only melodic, but challenging too. Takka basically just stands there, no energy onstage after like the first couple songs. And the songs are like kids' songs, so simplistic. Half the place emptied out midway thru their set. Man, that burns me up about the Forms not being on that list, they deserve way more recognition.

takka takka are number 19, not exactly a ringing endorsement.

why can't we all just love one another?
chuck norris says haters hate themselves deep down inside.

If there are five tied for eighth, then the next should be thirteenth, not twelfth. Also sixth should come after the tie for forth.

Where the hell is Jonny Lives! on this list, eh?
Posted by thechairguy | February 27, 2007 1:55 PM
johnny lives is terrible, they were on the van wilder soundtrak, rise of taj to be particular. Their one sheet also continuously talks about how sweet it is that they hail out of the "gritty lower east side" wow (they must be cool)

Wow, hey, where the fuck is blah blah blah on that list - this is bogus, and I'm outraged.

What are you talking about? Were we at the same Southpaw show? Takka Takka kicked some snarky Brooklyn a*s. I think the solipsisms are getting you down my friend. . .

I likt the top 8. Takka Takka were pretty bad at The Delancey in the past CMJ.

Yay Valeze!

The Big Sleep are amazing live. So much better than on album, and the album's pretty darn good.
Posted by Kara | February 28, 2007 1:47 AM
I was kidding about Jonny Lives, but yes, the list isn't exactly definitive with or without them.

I'm pretty sure Growings from Philly... I know they moved there over a year ago. They should've added Japanther and the Akron/Family too.
Posted by kentuckyfriedpanda | February 28, 2007 2:31 AM
I thought Takka Takka was very good at that show actually, though I don't disagree with you about The Forms.

so funny. i'm from chicago and i've only seen two of these bands over here next the lake: beirut and lowry.
and beirut isn't even from nyc. ha! good to see lowry getting a little love in their own backyard. seems they went unnoticed in nyc for quite some time.
grizzly bear is kinda interesting too.

this list is ridiculous; arbitrary at best. 98% of these 'bands' will be a memory in no more than a year. one can only drudge through gimmicks and image for so long before the brain atrophies. but wait, maybe that has already happened, hence the majority of the list. here's an idea: do your fucking homework, 'hipsters'. i know it's too late to go back and actually be a real punk kid, but at least have some sort of reverence for real rock & roll culture. sometimes you have to think, and show some genuine interest. you can't always be spoon fed the same 39th rate 'dance jams' by the 'professor'... lets just say blood on the wall and endless boogie might should be happier they aren't in such questionable company. best leave them to the people who actually just like good fucking rockin' music.
