Xiu Xiu & Sunset Rubdown | 2007 Tour Dates
DOWNLOAD: Xiu Xiu - Clowne Towne (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: Sunset Rubdown - Stadiums And Shrines II (MP3)
Xiu Xiu @ Mercury Lounge, NYC | Oct 12, 2006 (CRED)

Hardly something to complain about, but one possible downside of the vibrant music scene in NYC is the inevitability that a band like the Hold Steady would never play on the same bill as a band like The Thermals anymore. Why should they when they can each sell out Bowery Ballroom on their own? The same goes for Xiu Xiu and Sunset Rubdown who are touring together, but not in NYC.
Tickets are on sale for Xiu Xiu with Shearwater and Casiotone For The Painfully Alone at Bowery Ballroom on April 8th. Tickets are also on sale for Sunset Rubdown and Katie Eastburn at Bowery Ballroom on May 4th. All tour dates for both bands below...

Xiu Xiu/Shearwater/Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is the best lineup Ive heard for a show this year. Definitely excited for that one.

The Hold Steady and The Thermals played on the same bill in May 2004!
Posted by kathryn | February 1, 2007 2:52 PM
The Thermals are opening for The Hold Steady in March....but I agree double bills like these are rare but sweet!
Posted by Anonymous | February 1, 2007 3:35 PM
I should have said rare in nyc (as you pointed out) but i guess the double bill of the thermals and the hold steady is not rare down south where this will be happening...

"The Hold Steady and The Thermals played on the same bill in May 2004!"
I added the word "anymore"

i thought someone told me once that xiu xiu were pretty bad live... any thoughts? i know shearwater is amazing and it's worth it to pay just to see them. one of the top records of '06. very underrated.

Xiu Xiu is badass live

Agreed on Shearwater's Palo Santo -- an underrated (forgotten?) record of 06 (though NYT's Kelefa Sanneh has been a vocal champion) and they can bring it live

There was a video of a Xiu Xiu set performing at Bottom of the Hill floating around awhile back, and it was a pretty amazing performance. I'd say that they would be insane live.

I'd wager hold steady/thermals add a nyc date soon.
BTW, the Hold Steady's last show at the Stone Pony was amazing. I took a lot of videos with good audio. Hoodrat and Cattle are the best. Check em out:
