South by Southwest comes to the Canal Room in NYC tonight (March 20) with performances by Iceland's Bang Gang (Bardi Johannsson) and Sweden's David & The Citizens PLUS a special appearance by the lovely Angela McLuskey. Tickets are $10 at the door.

i missed David and the Citizens at SXSW. Anybody catch them? did he play with the band or did he get replacements? I wanted to check them out but was skeptical. Checked the Bang Gang myspace and David is playing an acoustic set only. Bummer.

i saw david & the citizens at SXSW a few times - i actually thought they were pretty great. it was a semi-acoustic set - just david and his girlfriend sara (with backing tracks on some songs), so it wasn't necessarily as loud/rocking as it would have been with the full band. but david is a great singer and an excellent lyricist, so it still sounded fantastic - and it was nice to see david & the citizens make it over to the states after all these years of being a fan.

so that previous BV post about the band quitting because of his girlfriend was true...and she replaced them? ugh. I cherish those first two albums, soft and harder songs, but would want the whole band to be there to experience it live. that's disappointing, even if they are good as a duo.

That thing about her splitting up the band is not trur - I heard it was all about royaltie fights!!!
