This guy Ronald doesn't like Bloc Party:

I'm sorry, but it's impossible for me to listen to these English newcomers without hearing the indelible mark of post-punk founders the Cure. I'm afraid what we have here is just the latest example of a U.K. band appropriating the sound of one of America's best. This is one bloc party RTC will not be attending — and I don't care if they are serving hamburgers.

He doesn't like Cat Power either. Here's a picture of Bloc Party from SXSW...

Wait....surely he wasn't referring to The Cure as one of AMERICA's best?

Usually, around here, when Ronald unveils his opinion its a conversation decider, not starter. When he says Bloc Party is rot, then they are rot. Same with Chan.

Posted by comeon | March 27, 2007 3:34 PM

That's right--Ronald knows. Around there, he's the conversation decider, not starter. Don't question Ronald. They don't over there, so don't do it over here. It's all about over there. Always.

What's next? Bruce Springsteen, Sweden's finest. Now here's an idiot if I've ever seen one. Is this a joke? This guy thinks The Cure is from US and has never heard Laura Nyro and has written a book about rock? Then he writes for emusic? Confirms my thoughts about music criticism in general.

Ronald Thomas Clontle is music's premier tastemaker. What he says goes.

Posted by Mark | March 27, 2007 4:02 PM

I cant believe people got all the way to the Bloc Party review before questioning whether this was a joke or not....
The Rock , Rot & Rule CD is where it all started....pick it up for such classics as "Madness rules because they invented ska" and The Beach Boys rot because they had "too many stinkers"

bloc party are played out. cat power has ALWAYS licked balls.

Posted by cranky | March 27, 2007 4:33 PM

By the way, there are still tickets for sale for Bloc Party.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2007 4:35 PM

I just checked, no tickets. I've been checking for the last two months with no luck.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2007 4:45 PM

i don't like Bloc Party much myself but he totally thinks the Cure is from America. what a douche

Posted by george harrison | March 27, 2007 5:14 PM

..its a joke, folks....
...does anybody remember laughter ?

Posted by Tim | March 27, 2007 5:17 PM

Awesome. Bloc Party killed last time they played Asbury Park. And I've bought a house there since so this will be even better since I won't have to drive anywhere afterward.

Posted by SF | March 27, 2007 5:22 PM

If Clontle says the Cure is from America, then the Cure is from America! Argument settled, douche!

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2007 5:23 PM

Bloc Party tickets have been available (in the Orchestra, and for both dates) for the past couple of weeks.

Posted by MARLOW | March 27, 2007 5:58 PM

I guess they disappear whenever I look.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2007 6:17 PM

Chan is great, don't know what you're all talking about.

Posted by J | March 27, 2007 6:32 PM

Chan is great, don't know what you're all talking about.

Posted by J | March 27, 2007 6:32 PM

Well then I guess you should stop putting in requests for multiple tickets and grab a single.

Posted by MARLOW | March 27, 2007 6:39 PM

for the person looking for tickets, try craigslist. lots of tickets for face and i'm sure less as the shows get closer.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2007 6:44 PM

bloc party tickets still available. some pretty close tickets too.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2007 7:24 PM

I don't know wtf you guys are talking about either. I've been looking for a single ticket also and haven't been able to pull anything. Will try craigslist.

Posted by Alan | March 27, 2007 8:07 PM

is it a joke? maybe then i get it--he makes mistakes as a joke. because tom waits didn't cover the ramones, it was the other way around.

i only read one item down on the link, and that just happens to be the one on tom waits. etc. whatev.

I saw Bloc Party at the pool last summer. They were ok at best. Not nearly as good as the bands they've ripped off but they are new so we will see. Love their remix cd though.

Posted by jjazznola | March 28, 2007 1:31 AM

Surely he's taking the piss... Look: "One caviar: Neko's country-rock stylings are a far cry from her work on the Velvet Underground's debut long-player." (In the Neko Case section.)

Or this, about Johnny Cash: "1957's "Ballad of a Teenage Queen" is, as far as I know, the first song documenting the everyday trials and tribulations of a lowly transvestite. I'm looking forward to hearing what this national treasure serves up next."

So, Anonymous at 4:00 pm: yes, this is, in fact, a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2007 10:42 AM

Actually, Anon 4:00 pm, *you* are an idiot. *He* he Jon Wurster of Superchunk, and the whole thing is quite obviously a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2007 10:57 AM

Holy shit. Look how many of you douches got taken in by this guy's prank. I love watching uptight twats spazz as their indie sacred cows are skewered.

Posted by c | March 28, 2007 11:26 AM

that convention hall is like, crumbling. how is that gonna work?

Posted by heidi | March 28, 2007 4:34 PM

i just pulled up general admission tickets to bloc party at united palace on ticketmaster. can someone tell me where they are before i buy them? is there a pit area or something? (it doesn't look like there's one in the seating chart).
