Kate Havnevik touring with Air, playing Joe's Pub tonight, LA
DOWNLOAD: Kate Havnevik - New Day (MP3)

I'm not totally sold on Norway's Kate Havnevik. What I've heard so far doesn't sound bad, but maybe she steals a little too much from Bjork? (even her logo seems to be ripping off Bjork). Kate's credentials include a song on Grey's Anatomy, working with Royksopp, opening for Sigur Ros, singing backup vocals for Britney Spears (true), and now going on tour with Air. Tonight (March 22) she plays Joe's Pub in NYC. She also plays The Hotel Cafe in LA on March 27th - the same day her debut album is released here in the U.S. For the rest of her tour dates, see Air's. Listen to a SXSW interview with her here.
Has anyone seen her live? She played a few NYC shows already, and at least two at SXSW.

I saw her about a couple of years ago. She did some tour dates with Royksopp, providing vocals for the songs she had recorded with them. I can't say anything either way...she wasn't bad, she wasn't mind-blowing either, she was just kind of there. When I go to a Royksopp show it's not b/c I want to hear their more mellow songs which were the ones she sang, so it wouldn't have really made a difference if it was just a recording of her singing, or actually her.

I'll be there tonight. I have the same sentiments as you in that I'm only half-sold. I'll have a better opinion tomorrow.

you're on point BV, she's pretty, kcrw-in-the-morning-while-you're-working-at-your-boring-office-job obsessively reading muuuusic blogs, but in concert? I say...save all your cash for the real thing (bjork).

yeah i'm not stoked about her at all. like an unimaginative bjork rip-off. i'm sure she'd be great for some kinda background vocal thing but nothing beyond that.

I ended up inadvertently seeing Kate twice at SXSW -- once cause she was early on the Amy Winehouse bill at Eternal, and once on the Fratellis bill at the Filter party. She's like Bjork meets Norah Jones -- tres adult contemporary and not exciting. Then I home to Seattle and she played here last night... and now here she is on Brooklyn Vegan. I think she's stalking me.

She was almost as boring as the Fratellis.

I saw her play 2 weeks ago at Mo Pitkins in NYC. She was great, but didn't play for too long. I wrote a review here -> http://cemusic.blogspot.com/2007/03/kate-havnevik-entices-at-mo-pitkins.html
I wanted to see her again tonight at Joe's Pub, but it's sold out. Oh well, next time around.

Oh, also, she doesn't have one song on Grey's Anatomy - she has 7.

If you'd like to decide for yourself, I have one short clip up on YouTube from her Paste / Militia Group SXSW set on Saturday.

Me, I'm a sucker for this stuff.
I shot some closer-in stuff at the Filter party that I'll eventually get around to posting.

When someone sounds that much like bjork its just a total turnoff from the get go. Id rather listen to bjork anyways!!

I saw her tonight at Joe's Pub. Her voice is beautiful and only "New Day" sounds like Bjork. All her other music is very different. I think she sounded great, but she has a very awkward stage presence so she can work on that.

I absolutely adore Kate. I think her music does have a tint of similarity to Bjork, who i also love, but when you see her live it is amazing. She is a total sweetheart and you can tell that she loves doing what she does.
I love Kate Havnevik.
