Last Dance @ The Roxy, NYC - March 11, 2007 (CRED)
The Roxy

"A wrecking ball will soon replace the disco ball at Roxy, the iconic nightclub that was home to New York’s longest running Saturday-night gay dance party." [NY Blade]

"'All good things must come to an end, but for the people involved, it seems almost like a dream. 'I'm surprised that it's lasted this long,' says Rauhofer. "It's sad to see another club go—this club with such a history. You know how it is in New York. Things come and go. Roxy, for what it was, lasted way longer than any other place. Once it's gone, people are going to value it way more.'" [Village Voice]

"West Village record shop Vinylmania has closed." [Gothamist]

"In the 70's, Vinylmania stores lined Carmine Street in the West Village." [NY1]

"Named from the building’s original tenant, Colonel Francis Messmore, Studio Mezmor occupies the space that once belonged to Crobar. But despite new owners and slight renovations, not much has changed." [clubplanet]

i knew about roxy of course but vinylmania...fuck.

that is the saddest news ive heard in ages. i was surprised it hung in there as long.

i think you can now seal the coffin on underground culture in the west village. first sonic groove, now this. carmine street was always a great block.

I remember the Roxy, in the beginning was the Roxy Roller Rink, the LARGEST of its kind in N Amwrica. I believe it oopened on Dec 20, 1979 as I was there working to get it ready the lat few weeks. Stevie GB was its' inspiration, Barry Imh...Managed. Those who were there will remember that night...probably better than I!!!
