Touch & Go says, "People are starting to ask us about a new album from Slint. Here's the deal. Slint has been preparing for shows this summer. They want to play music together and have decided to work on new material. Once they find a rehearsal space (in Louisville, KY), they can begin this process. Please do not start rumors about an impending Slint recording. Anything new will take a while. With a little luck, Touch and Go will have something to release in the next few years."

Hopefully they'll change the name if they do record new stuff. It's not the original line-up and it's been a long time. But there are $$$ to be made, so...

A lot of bands change members but don't change their name. Why would we be hopeful that Slint would do this? Mission of Burma has a different lineup, to think of one band that reunited recently. Smae with The Jesus and Mary Chain. Pavement switched drummers after Slanted, J Mascis forged ahead with Dino Jr., even Sonic Youth has messed with their lineup. It's just a name.

Think they'll play at Pitchfork in Chicago?

Anyone know if they'll play more than just Spiderland at this show? I don't feel like droppin' $30+ for an album length show, especially considering the reunion show at Irving Plaza sometime back was pretty satisfying.

can't wait to see them at atp again!

I think it is kind of a stretch to say that Mission of Burma has "a different lineup" when Martin Swope was a addition to the band after they formed (originally just as a live sound enginer) and rarely if ever appeared on stage. I don't question the importance of his live tape manipulation. By that logic you would be saying that The Pixies are "just a name" because Eric Drew Feldman did not perform on their reunion tour.

I hate the whole/reunion nostalgia trip. These people (or most of them) all made some great music at some point in their lives. Are they all finding it really difficult to come up with something new or is it strictly a money thing? Seeing a reformed band now isn't the same as seeing them in their heyday. Sorry, but it's just not.

David Pajo can lick my balls

Tim-
Well, Martin Swope joined about a year after the band started playing so his work with the band is pretty integral to its history. The point is who cares if they keep the same name because a member is no longer in the band? Slanted and Enchanted is considered a landmark of the indie rock world but Pavement didn't change their name even though Gary Young was no longer their drummer after that album.
And in response to another post, the reason why these bands are reuniting is because they are making a lot more money than they ever did the first time around. Slint was pretty upfront about that. I think it's ridiculous to fault people for cashing in on their creativite work. People in bands don't get a 401K.

"And in response to another post, the reason why these bands are reuniting is because they are making a lot more money than they ever did the first time around."
Are all of these bands honest enough to admit that? I don't see many people saying such things. Can you point me to an example where Slint said "it's for the money"? I'm sure you're correct, I'd just like to see where they said that.

When they first reformed weren't Slint quite vocal about saying "this is a one-time deal. See us now, and that's it"? I'm pretty sure that's how it went down.

Pajo seems pretty cool to me. He breifly had his own record store about ten years ago, and I talked to him about music for a half hour without knowing who he was. They're on their third bass player now, but who cares? They're boring as hell live, and obviously just in it for the money. Which is fine, it allows them to live and play in other bands.

I know it isn’t going to be quite as amazing as it would have been if I had seen Slint back in the day, but I was only 4 when Spiderland was released. I have been a fan for 8 years now and I never thought I would ever be able to see them live in my lifetime. It’s awesome to see some incredible bands touring these days!

If you are really a fan of 8 years, you could have seen them in concert 2-3 years ago.

This is true; however they did not come to Canada then and I did not have the funds to travel to the U.S.

SLINT IN TORONTO!!!
SLINT is playing a show at the Phoenix on July 16th in Toronto. I just saw it advertised in NOW Magazine. Woo hoo! Too bad I'll be in England :(

Just saw them Saturday night in Seattle. AMAZING!
I didn't see them when they were here in 2005 so I've been waiting 14 years for this show. Well worth the wait.

just got back from the Hollywood show. SO tight. I know just enough about them to fake it but I loved seeing them live. And I'm 43.

Good for Thrasher but I am 51 and I saw them live in Glasgow last night. They were awesome. "Good Morning Captain" made the hairs on my neck stand up.
