Television playing Summerstage! + Richard Lloyd Tour Dates

Television @ CBGB

They didn't play CBGB before it closed (just Richard), but shows in Canada last year proved they are still a band. Maybe they were holding out for something bigger - like Central Park Summerstage where they're reportedly playing on June 15, 2007 JUNE 16, 2007 - Richard Lloyd, Tom Verlaine, Billy Ficca, and Fred Smith. FREE. (thx Adam)

Richard Lloyd, who recently made an appearance at the 'All-Star Irish Rock Revue' at Bowery Ballroom on St. Patrick's Day, is also going on tour in May. He's playing Knitting Factory in NYC on May 19th. More Summerstage concerts here. All Richard Llloyd tour dates below....

Richard Lloyd and the Sufi Monkeys - 2007 Tour Dates
May 9 - Grant St. Studio, Hamilton Ontario, Canada (invitation only)
May 10 - Toronto Canada
May 11 - London Ontario, Canada
May 12 - Hamilton Ontario, Canada
May 13 - Oshowa, Ontario, Canada
May 14 - Detroit, The Magic Stick (all ages)
May 15 - Chicago, Shubas (21+)
May 16 - Cleveland - Beachland Ballroom (21+)
May 17 - Philadelphia - Kyber Pass (21+)
May 18 - Boston/Cambridge - TT The Bears (18+)
May 19 - NYC - The Knitting Factory (16+)

"These shows will be in support of the Deluxe Re-issue of Field Of Fire and also to preview Richard's new studio record out late summer/early fall called The Radiant Monkey. It will also contain a mini set of Jimi Hendrix covers, as a trio under the guise of Jaime Neverts (to be explained). Set lists will be provided to the audience, as souvenirs."

im assuming this isnt free huh?

either way, im definitely going.

richard lloyd is an amazing guitarist but his solo stuff is pretty crap.

Actually I think that his first solo album Alchemy is the best solo album by a member of Television and better than any of Tom Verlaine's solo albums. With that said, I Richard play a solo show about 6 years ago and it wasn't very good at all. He is a terrific guitar player, but the vocals just weren't up to snuff on that particular evening. I also saw Television the following year and it was just a mess. They were very sloppy and generally disinterested until the encore, which was great.

It is free! I forgot that part.

I agree -- Alchemy is a great undiscovered record. Glad I have the vinyl; I don't think it ever came out on CD.

alchemy is okay...some of the cheesy keyboards were against richard's wishes...apparently he was strung out for most of the recording.

sorry, but there's no way that alchemy beats verlaine's dreamtime...not for me as least.

Richard's work over the last few years with Rocket from the Tombs is pretty great too. It's too bad he gets overshadowed by Tom Verlaine (though understandable, I guess). But I'm with Sam - Dreamtime is the best post-Television solo record.

alchemy was on cd on collector's choice...not too hard to find.

The only Lloyd worth of the three-L spelling is Llloyd Carr.

Damn, why is this show free? Now it will be packed with freeloaders.

Well, I wouldn't say they were "holding out." I mean, they have been playing out at least a few times a year in NYC for about five years now, including a double bill with Patti Smith at Roseland only about a year and a half ago and a bunch of shows at Irving.

This is kind of like all the write-ups about the Stooges reunion, which all seem to forget that said reunion actually took place a few years ago.

I remember attending a Television/Patti Smith double bill at the Roseland, but it was two and a half years ago...I hadn't really heard much about Television since then, just Richard Lloyd

An unusual interview with Lloyd is up at Rock Town Hall today: http://www.rocktownhall.com/blogs/index.php?title=endurance_the_richard_lloyd_interview&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

Strange cat. Great player!

Put me down for Dreamtime as the best of the solo albums by those two.

I was at the Richard Lloyd show at the Knitting factory. It was the best show that I have seen in a very long time --- period. It started off with RL chanting and then going totally crazy because some people in the audience were a little disrespectful. RL was way out of line but it created an emotionally charged atmosphere which enhanced the show. He started in with some new material and they just blew the fucking club apart. He also did 5 Hendrix covers. It takes balls to cover those songs. It was on the money all the way. It was so refreshing to see a performer who had something to say both musically and personally. RL is definitely not vanilla ice cream.
