How were the shows? How is the new Decemberists DVD? More info on that and Fleetwood Mac, below....

The Decemberists

"We are pleased to present The Decemberists: A Practical Handbook, the new DVD featuring the documentary film Paris Before the War; a live recording from the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Oregon on November 4, 2005; music videos; illustrations by Carson Ellis, the band's artist-in-residence; out-takes; and all sorts of other little details worth poring over."

The venue was pretty amazing and really easy to get to on the "Path" train. It was an old theater with actual comfy seats and everyone was sitting down. They had no-standing hall monitors. (It was kinda nice actually) The Decemberists were so good too, they had the sitting down crowd clapping, yelling, screaming, and singing. Good stuff.

I thought the Wednesday night show was excellent. And that venue was pretty wild—talk about a place LONG past its heyday!

See my post for a complete review and set list...

The Thursday night show was excellent. During the encore, 2 people in a giant whale costume terrorized the stage, which was hilarious. There were plenty of PATH train jokes from Colin. My Brightest Diamond also covered "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin.

The Decemberists were a good time like usual. They played the Mariner's Revenge Song again and Colin played Morrissey's Everyday is like Sunday as one of the encores.

Great performance by the Decemberists last night at the comfy, easy-to-get-to and accoustically impeccable Loews Theater in JC.

However, I don't quite understand the "hall monitor" approach of security there, telling young ladies not to dance during a... rock'n'roll concert! What will those crazy kids do next!!! Meanwhile, said monitors were somehow oblivious to the young men, sitting on the aisle no less, smoking cigarettes through most of the second half of the show.
