Deerhunter played some shows (in a dress)
When I saw Deerhunter he wasn't wearing a dress. How were the two recent NYC shows? Here's a picture from Toronto....

Photo by Pete Nema - check out his review and more pics. Next NYC show = Bowery.

April 27th show was SO good but he received something...special onstage. Love that Bradford!

I really have to see these guys pronto.

please tell me the lead singer is sick or something legitimate excuse. I saw them open for APES and Liars and thought something was wrong with him.
Posted by john | April 28, 2007 9:23 PM
I don't know but I got sick watching him last night. The drooling was a bit excessive.
Posted by anotherjohn | April 28, 2007 9:46 PM
He has Marfans Syndrome - Joey Ramone, Abraham Lincoln, Robert Johnson etc... all have it too.
The drooling was excessive? How about uhh...the oral sex that happened on stage?
Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2007 10:54 PM
Ummm...actually recent research has shown that Abe Licoln probably didn't have Marfans Syndrome but Osama Bin Laden probably does. (Wikipedia)

He played in a dress at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA (Home of Of Montreal) too. These guys are great live.

I must have left before that went, um..down. Do tell- Who was the lucky servicer? Hopefully not the drummer, he's got enough to worry about.

Deerhunter was so excellent at silent barn. In fact the entire show was off the chain. One of the guitarists did indeed blow bradford during the last song and then proceeded to collapse on the floor. Funny just reading that ny daily news article above this about how karen o was going to be hanging out with bradford during the ny shows. I was right behind the drummer for the show and there was a girl across from me who came with Bradford and i kept thinking to myself she looked like Karen O's twin. Haha i guess that was in fact her....She also was standing next to the cutest girl who, besides having a killer body which almost became completely exposed during awesome colors set, was tough as nails. She literally got clobbered during the show even being slammed into the drums once or twice and always got up and shrugged it off. I only mention this cause if she is reading this I really want to know you. The guy you were with is so not in your league.

bv is for lovers

Yeah it was one of the guitarists who serviced him. Karen O was indeed there. ANDREW WK played guitar with Awesome Color. JD from Le Tigre was also there.

why are there not any pics of this debauchery?
Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2007 2:31 PM
what the hell
Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2007 3:37 PM
Holy nut sack.
Posted by ................ | April 29, 2007 3:48 PM
Well as i said before i guess that was Karen O although she seemed much shorter than i remember
but no Andrew WK was NOT there. Their other guitarist just looks like him a little
Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2007 3:55 PM
"but no Andrew WK was NOT there"
you are completely mistaken. it was indeed AWK. firstly, dude was wearing a 'late night with conan obrien' shirt, on which AWK was featured last week. and secondly, awesome color is originally from Michigan, so they're probably tight homies with AWK from that scene.
it was definitely AWK. people were going up to him after the awesome color set and getting pictures with him.
and karen o. was def. there too

That may be the scariest looking dude I've ever seen!
Posted by brassbonanza | April 29, 2007 5:01 PM
How is he scary looking? He's thin... big deal. Man, everyone gotta' get over his looks and realize that he's a genius.
Posted by Mark B. | April 29, 2007 6:47 PM
No joke, people need to stop treating him like he's some circus freak or something because he's thin. Deerhunter is a great band and there are lots of thin people in this world, get over it!
Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2007 10:50 PM
yes, that was most certainly Andrew WK playing with Awesome Color.
yes, the woman with a bob haircut at the front mothering Bradford was Karen O.
yes, Bradford got blown on "stage" (actually, he was standing on the kitchen counter).
Bradford is a thin guy, so what? Really not that freaky, get over it.
He doesn't do drugs at all (doesn't even drink), doesn't have AIDS, isn't anorexic. He has Marfan Syndrome.
Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2007 11:28 PM
He and Beth Ditto ought to have a child.

my boyfriend and i were standing behind the drummer moses, so we had a pretty amazing vantage point whenever bradford would climb onto the counter top and do his thing. bradford's an excellent performer, thoroughly engaging. my only complaint is that at one point he dumped a cup of sugar in my general direction, a good portion of which landed on my head. as i was already nasty from the sweat and water, a sugar shower wasn't exactly what i'd had in mind. regardless, one of the best shows i've seen in a long time.

Not to be all picky and shit but
"yes, the woman with a bob haircut at the front mothering Bradford was Karen O"
Well I would not call blowing kisses to a guy mothering but hey maybe your mother was different than mine. They had matching shirts on which the front had a picture and said "toughruck" Actually before they played they were next to me behind the drummer and Bradford was saying "are you ok over here" to which she replied "im good wherever you want me to be honey"
"my boyfriend and i were standing behind the drummer moses..."
no actually, I was standing right behind the drummer and to the left of me was another guy and to the right of me was one of the people recording the show so you must have been behind me behind the drummer. But yes the sugar shower was kinda annoying
That all being said the entire show(all 4 bands) was recorded with 4 cameras for a new interactive web site that Vice magazine is starting up soon. So you will all be able to see what went down pretty soon.

"..interactive web site that vice is starting up soon."
you mean vice tv? that's already launched dawg.

Cranky, it's been explained already that he looks like that due to a genetic disorder. So, you're an asshole.

Vice filmed this thing with 7 cameras, plus there were crazy magazine photographers and other bs, so they'll be a historical record of this debauch for sure.
Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2007 12:35 PM
after he got done blowing Bradford, the guitar player fell face first onto the rug that served as the stage and wouldn't/couldn't get up for 5 minutes. Bradford reportedly ran into the bedroom a friend of mine was hanging in and jumped up onto a loft, spread eagle, started complaining about how he "didn't even get to cum" on stage

haha this was so much fun.
if you take away all the "debauchery" and "press" and "celebrity sightings" this show was still amazing. deerhunter really sounded great, like a really important, special band. i just hope they don't self-destruct under the weight of their own genius.
silent barn is the ultimate "real" brooklyn jump-off. love this place.

"silent barn is the ultimate "real" brooklyn jump-off. love this place."

I went to see Deerhunter not really knowing what to expect. I imagined that their sound might be difficult to pull off live... what I got was one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Completely amazing. I can't believe I almost let the hype make me avoid them... I can't wait to hear new stuff by them..
Also, Cox was wearing a dress at the San Diego show,
You can see the pictures here:

I don't get why people get in such a huff about his on stage antics, it's refreshing to see an artist actually try and break boring societal expectations every now and then. There's also something interesting about the juxtaposition of Deerhunters soothing and ethereal sound with more punkish behavior.

"He doesn't do drugs at all (doesn't even drink), doesn't have AIDS, isn't anorexic. He has Marfan Syndrome."
I'm pretty sure he does some drugs, I was at the show wearing a Gang Gang Dance shirt and when I walked by him he stopped me to tell me he got really high once and made that shirt design for them.
Great show, kinda weird finish with the whole fellatio thing but hey
