Irving Plaza sign taken down -- hello Fillmore

Irving Plaza

"Thanks to the tipster who sent us this cameraphone shot of the sign that was once outside New York's Irving Plaza, which was felled to make way for the most dubious bit of rebranding since Jefferson Starship chopped off the first half of its name." [Idolator]

Aww. I remember my internship sending me to a terrible Alkaline Trio show there years and years ago. Now next time I'm walking down the street in New York, nothing will be there too remind me to reminisce about that awful night. Kinda sad.

this makes me sad too. but, for a different reason than tug gave. i had countless wonderful memories of my early concert going years at irving plaza. memories that were always sparked whenever i saw that red sign. ugh.

The catch is, changing the name doesn't do anything to remedy the fact that this club is vanilla. Am I the only one who feels icky and corporate every time I walk in this place?

But now there will be a personal greeter to meet you, it will feel just like Trader Joe's!

the fillmore is going to be lame as hell

i feel more "icky" being forced to see a great band at webster hall. or even more "icky" if i trek the hipsterfest that is always studio b, where people are always so drunk and rude it makes the concert unenjoyable.
