Jarvis played Webster -- Damon says no more Gorillaz

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker played his first of two solo shows at Webster Hall in NYC last night. How was it? Who opened? It surely wasn't The Long Blondes or Little Man Tate. Any duets with Beth Ditto?

In other news, Blur frontman Damon Albarn says 'no more Gorillaz albums'.

The Blur singer said that the only project left for the cartoon band will be a film featuring a score composition, that has previously been linked to filmmaker and Monty Python mastermind Terry Gilliam.
Damon's other band The Good The Bad and The Queen played Webster Hall back in March. Jarvis and Damon are both playing Coachella later this week.

The show was FANTASTIC. No surprise guests, but a couple covers which also weren't surprising if you're a Jarvis fan and have spent any time recently on YouTube. Dirty Projectors opened and they were great. Review over my way...

Anyone know what time he went on?

i agree - fantastic show. the encores (talking heads and sabbath) were great, though it was funny to hear the crowd go CRAZY when jarvis announced that he'd run out of new material and would have to "spoil [us] with old songs" - and then try to stifle their collective sigh when he said they would be covers.

Yeah, great show but honestly having to read the lyrics taped to the floor of "paranoid" and "heaven" while you are singing them is kinda wack.
On another note. VIP Area sightings were the ubiquitous Albert Hammond Jr and on a much cooler note Wes Anderson.

No one's really discussed this yet, so I thought I would ask: Does anyone know what time Jarvis Cocker took the stage last night?

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2007 2:24 PM

No one's discussed it yet, but 3 people have asked! I guess it's a thankless task opening up for Jarvis Cocker.

If I walk from my apartment, what time should I leave?

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2007 3:30 PM

HI GUYS CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT TIME JARVIS GOS ONSTAGE?!? TANKS.

Jarvis Cocker usually performs on a stage when he performs. In order to be on a stage, you must be present on that stage at a given time. This is a physical presence that can be witnessed. Last night, when Jarvis Cocker performed, he was onstage at a specific time. Many people saw him. The question I pose to you is this: what time did Jarvis Cocker appear onstage?

Last night's show was pretty great. I arrived a tad early, something on the order of an hour and a half or two hours but having taken the bus from Boston my friend and I figured we might as well be front and center.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but one of the reasons Jarvis went on closer to 10:15 was his roadies messing around with one of the electronics next to the drum kit (shining flash lights in, looking irritated, etc.) I'm assuming the defect has something to do with the fact that Black Magic wasn't played.

I took one of the set lists from the stage after the show and it was written right before Running The World, which was supposed to be 1 of the 2 encores. I think that's the reason he played both Heaven and Paranoid. Both were cool but I think Black Magic is one of the standouts on the album.

Hope everyone enjoy's tonight's show.

I was at Monday night's show. Brilliant, brilliant! Dirty Projectors, on the other hand, totally sucked. I don't know under what rock Jarvis found them but I sure hope they return there never to be heard again.

he played black magic last night (monday) and it was definitely the highlight of the show. he went wild for that song. it was great.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2007 8:44 AM

what time did he go on last night???

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2007 8:57 AM

I think he went on at 10:10pm. Can anyone confirm the actual second Jarvis took the stage?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2007 9:33 AM

Why does Johnny Damon say no more gorillaz? Was he upset the last record wasn't called Damon Days?
Jarvis Cocker left the stage at around 11:30. Can someone else confirm this?

Dirty Projectors reminded me a lot of Thinking Fellers Union Local 282--a band that absolutely rules!

Dirty Projectors was quite possibly the worst band I've ever heard in my life..If that is the best Brooklyn has to offer then its a sad state of musical affairs in hipsterville!

OMG i just found out Dirty Projectors opened - i LOV E those guys - and isn't it typical that as someone working on Jarvis' team here (i just had lunch with him for the first time!) i'm the last person to know about the DPs opening!

p.s. i have it on good word - it was supposed to be Glass Candy on one of the nites, but they decided to go to the recording studio instead - BOO HISS! i love Glass Candy too so i can't hate too much.

Anyhoo we got some downloads and videos and stuff on www.worlds-fair.net ; plus our blog, www.worlds-fair.net/news/

The Dirty Projectors are just another Grateful Dead rehash. I'm glad Jarvis scolded them for all the dope smoking.
