Kate Moss & Beth Ditto (Gossip gossip)

"Kate Moss was spotted hanging out with indie singer Beth Ditto (right) after her band Gossip performed in LA." [The Superficial] (thx Julia)

Kate Moss and Beth Ditto

According to NME, Kate Moss was also "rocking out in the balcony" earlier in the night at the Saturday night show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.

Gossip's remaining two tour dates are this Thursday in Chicago, and this Saturday here in NYC - then the True Colors tour which has them sharing a stage with Rufus Wainwright in MA & MD, and brings them to Radio City Music Hall on June 18th (not where I would want to see Gossip).

ATTENTION FATTIES!

You are not allowed to wear tights. This includes stretch pants and/or tight sweatpants.

Some of us just ate lunch.

Ditto posed nude for On Our Backs, a women-run lesbian erotica magazine. "It was a big moment in my life," she told Curve magazine. "It was kind of a radical thing to do. I got my period just 10 minutes before we got there, and I was totally bleeding. I was doing it with my tranny boyfriend, who I’m in love with, and I was totally bleeding — how radical is that? — and I’m a fat person, and I’m a femme. It felt really good." [Wikipedia]

Anyone have a copy?

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2007 5:38 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2007 6:10 PM

Posted by just curious | April 10, 2007 6:33 PM

Not the person to stand next to if you're Beth.

Holy shit have they changed. I use to read that magazine religiously back in the '90s. You can usually pick it up at better Barnes & Noble bookstores. Or wait - was it "Off Our Backs"? Crap.

Yeah, a fat, bloody, flopsweaty pop star. So erotic. I just threw up a little in my face.

damn - y'all harsh. that's pretty messed up hating on her cause she's fat. i think it's great that she's comfortable with it . . . although i'm not running out to buy that issue of on our backs.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2007 9:41 AM

Is this pic an optical illusion?

Posted by Buggsy | April 11, 2007 10:33 AM

why the fuck do you assholes spend so much time attacking every picture of beth ditto on here with your juvenile ignorant bullshit comments. seriously guys, what the fuck? grow up.

Posted by monica | April 11, 2007 10:44 AM

The issue of On Our Backs with Beth Ditto was published a few years ago when Beth was smaller - at that point I was totally inspired by her confidence - totally hot and full of soul. I think she's gotten a lot larger in the last year - to the point where despite her confidence I can't see past the point of how unhealthy her body must be.

Posted by growly | April 11, 2007 10:48 AM

Are these the same message boards where fans furiously speak out against racism, anti-semetism and homophobia??

Obesity is a disease, and it can be genetic as much as it is a choice. Since when is ripping on fat people cool or funny?

You guys are bunch of assholes.

Posted by Drugs Delaney | April 11, 2007 11:30 AM

Drugs Delaney:

I understand your point and I wouldnt rip on her for being fat, at least not out loud or on a comment board on a website...but for the majority of fat/obese people, it isnt a disease. They just eat too much and don't exercise, and that's all a choice. And it's an unhealthy choice that will likely catch up with them in the long term.

Posted by Charles | April 11, 2007 12:04 PM

hey they're americans what do you expect? they have no critical faculty and for the past 50 years they have been well trained to be obsessed with body image/celebrity over politics/economics. the dumbing down of US culture is wildly successful - and they arrogantly parade their stupidity as a badge of honor. We've lost the culture wars, all we can hope to do is survive the mopping up operations. Tonic, CBGB, Manitobas didn't make it...the internothing is next.

Posted by jim | April 11, 2007 12:05 PM

Wasn't Beth all ticked off about Kate Moss recently? (NME honours or somesuch.)

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2007 12:20 PM

drugs... i missed your post rushing to the defense of Bradford Cox (Deerhunter's singer) when everyone wonder why he just didn't eat a ham sandwich.

did i look in the wrong place - or did you?

Posted by kde | April 11, 2007 12:40 PM

Charles and KDE - Must have missed the story on Deerhunter's singer. I assume it was an eating disorder? I would have rushed to his defense as well, as anorexia is a serious mental illness, a bit more complicated than telling someone to "Just eat something"...a comment similar to telling an obese, overweight person to "just stop eating"

You are assuming that obsesity is always a choice, when in fact it is not and can clearly be a genetic issue. Not all obese people spend their days sitting in front of televisions and eating junk food. Some work very hard at eating healthy and exercising and never shed the pounds...or when they do, they gain it back again in short time.

Even the ones who aren't eating healthy...junk food is an addiction as much as anything else is, and no different than those addicted to smoking, drugs, alcohol, etc. While obese people may show the effects of their addiction more clearly (being fat), they are by no means less healthy than the alcoholic or heavy smoker.

I feel like a god damn Kindergarten teacher right now.

The bones eez for the dog, the meat eez for the man!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2007 1:56 PM

beth ditto was horribly, terribly ill when she lost all that weight. no one knew what was going on with her - she was going through episodes of bell's palsy, etc etc until ultimately she had to have her gall bladder removed. so for her skinny doesn't necessarily equal healthier.

Posted by beanz | April 11, 2007 2:25 PM

Delaney! (good movie BTW) the Deerhunter singer wasn't suffering from a eating disorder - but rather another type of illness that affects his growth.

Posted by kde | April 11, 2007 2:31 PM

I used to be waaay overweight. But I also didn't frequently take my top off or wear tights. Flaunting obesity is going to attract derision.

And the Gossip deserve to be a successful band on artistic merit, but I don't think it takes a cynic to deduce that the NME lavished attention on them as a self-congratulatory act (crowning an obese woman on their "cool list" to show how high-minded they are). It is after all, a very shallow magazine. So her obesity is why she's famous now.

So the combination of the attention she brings to her own obesity and the nature of her rise to fame is going to attract comments about her obesity since that is why she's famous.

So expecting people not to talk about it is tantamount to expecting a thread on Neil Armstrong not to talk about the moon.

Posted by CravinforClavin | April 11, 2007 4:30 PM

Boooo-hooo, Bell's Palsy. Eddie Money got it and it hasn't affected his talent one bit! Beth Ditto thinks she's bad? She never played a vampire who tries to bite a lady only to discover that THE LADY WAS A VAMPIRE HERSELF. Now THAT'S bad.

Posted by Crosseyed Sniper | April 11, 2007 5:23 PM

cravinforclavin, what do you mean by flaunting? how exactly should one go about existing so as to not to flaunt and attract derision... derision which is apparently condoned by you & others. why? is it that, god forbid, she doesn't give a fuck about regressive social norms that teach people to fear & hate those that are different? that she won't let her wardrobe be defined by narrow minds? what really about beth ditto is so fucking offensive to so many? its a sad commentary on how far society still needs to go when the decision to be confident and proud of yourself for your talent, beauty and whatever else the fuck you want to be proud of, makes you fair game for hate speech. she's talented. she's beautiful. she's honest and she and the gossip are actually doing something about making this shitty world just that much better with their music, WHICH IS WHY THEY ARE KNOWN

and btw: your analogy sucks. a thread on neil armstrong would talk about going to the moon because he's an astronaut... sooo using that... a thread on beth ditto would be about music because she's a singer.

all calvin is trying to say is that, 'some people shouldn't leave their house' or 'didn't your mother teach you to dress properly'.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2007 8:15 PM

She grew up in rural Arkansas eating squirrels. I don't think her mama taught her too much about "dressing properly."

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2007 8:20 PM

She also said she doesn’t wear deodorant or bother with shaving her armpits.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2007 8:47 PM

None of you noticed the Yo majesty T-shirt?

Those ladies are also big.

Don't be a hater. Yo Majesty 4 Life!!!!
