Lightning Bolt shows, free & w/ Sun Ra Arkestra & DMBQ

Lightning BoltI wonder if Lightning Bolt collaborator Bjork will be at any of these shows....

Lightning Bolt in NYC
Apr 26 @ Studio B in Brooklyn w/ xBxRx, Aa (BIG A little a), High Places, D&D & Bug Sized Mind (TONIGHT)
Apr 27 @ Pratt Institute in Brooklyn w/ SUN RA ARKESTRA (6pm, FREE)
May 26 in NYC w/ DMBQ

Sun Ra himself is no longer with us, but the Arkestra is probably pretty awesome anyway (and free). Not to be morbid, but DMBQ also (more recently) lost a member - it's good to see they're still at it. All dates below...

The free show will most likely be cancelled. The rain location is not coming through.

Who is drumming now for DMBQ?

Marshall Allen's Arkestra is different from the space-opera Arkestra under Sun Ra, but it is no lesser, just different. Still more outside than your wildest harmonic imaginings, still more rhythmically insidious than twenty alien Fela Kutis, still impossible to describe and impossible to capture on any sort of recording media, still a full-on challenge to any way you thought they should be -- or any way you thought YOU should be -- but they are undeniably different.

That Studio B show was crazy, Dan Deacon played a surprise set in the middle of the Studio B dance floor

Later on the fucking venue tried to pull the plug on Lightning Bolt and Todd P almost got in fistfight with the soundguy over it.

soundguy was trying to turn down Brian Gibson's amps while his back was turned and Todd slapped the motherfucker's hands away.

Then dude threatens to cut the power and storms off, and out of nowhere they turn on the venue lights for a minute.

LB didn't stop playing and TP straight up warned the sound guy in front of everybody that he was going to have a riot on his hands if they tried to cut the power at a Lightning Bolt show. LB turned up, kept going, the lights went back off, and they kept on playing for like an hour and a half.

those Studio B fuckers are chumps!

I saw all that happen, that sound guy also snuck up and turned down xBxRx's equipment while they were playing.
